A sister for Sacha.....

HELP! 32 weeks and we are not making any progress on a name for DD2.

DD1 (as title would suggest!) is a Sacha. Suits her down to the ground and is a name I loved way before she was even born. Struggling to find a name for DD2 though - we have long lists and shorter lists, but nothing really seems to jump out at us. Surely it should be easier than this? I feel a bit bad that DD1 has the only girls' name I really love, while DD2 seems destined to just be lumbered with a name that is somehow second best....

We like strong, not-too-flowery names that suggest a bit of oomph and personality, and don't want anything too girly/popular like Poppy/Daisy/Flopsy etc.

So far our list is (in very rough order of preference):

ALEX (the only name we can vaguely agree on, but I am worried that with 2 daughters named Sacha and Alex people will think we are Russian Grin.... Do you think this would be a problem? Also, very strictly speaking - again in Russian - Sacha is a nickname for Alex, so could be more potential weirdness. But it's a name we both like - unisex, strong, will stand test of time)

SCARLETT (this was DH's choice for DD1, but when she arrived she just didn't look like a Scarlett, so we went with my first choice)

And then the others:

Lily (slightly breaking our non-flowery rule, but this seems to be growing on me)
Isabel
Ivy
Leila/Layla
Jasmin (DH likes this, I'm not sure)
Alice

Suggestions welcome!

Has anyone suggested Zara.

WetAugust · 29/02/2012 22:26

Alexis? It's a girls name.

deste · 01/03/2012 15:58

How about Kiki, Coco, Bo or Bebe. There's a theme their me thinks.

anychocswilldo · 01/03/2012 19:44

Alice is beautiful and classic. I would pick this if I ever have another dd. Ivy is also very pretty.

I think the perfect name to go with Sacha is Saskia.

But also like
Alice

mathanxiety · 02/03/2012 22:46

How about Carmen?

poppy283 · 03/03/2012 06:31

I think Sacha and Leila sound great together. Or what about Sacha and Greta?

mathanxiety · 03/03/2012 06:51

Carly?

deste · 04/03/2012 13:11

Sascha and Sophie.

deste · 04/03/2012 13:12

Sacha?

jeanjeannie · 04/03/2012 15:17

My DH is a Sasa and yes, his full name is Aleksandar - so for me the Sasa/Sasha/Sacha & Alexs combo seems wrong.

Some gorgeous suggestions already - love Cosima, Seren, Saskia and Romy.
I think Marina, Natalia and Felicity or Zara would go quite nicely too.

PineCones · 04/03/2012 20:34

Petra
Camilla
Freya
Zoe
Loved Alexis- someone else had suggested it above
Ella

Ellen / Eleanor

I actually find Alex quite boring alongside Sacha -

Sacha sounds interesting and quirky whereas Alex i find a little yawnful iykwim? I disagree that they are similar - both could be mistaken for male names but i do not think they are similar? Perhaps thats just me?

The same goes with Lily, Isabel, Alice - all very nice names do not get me wrong - but i feel you are not really wanting nice and a name that others in the class are liekly to have?

Scarlett i quite like tbh

Sacha & Phoebe
Sacha & Felicity
Sacha & Susannah (Suki nn)
Sacha & Erin
Sacha & Gabrielle
Sacha & Estelle (stella nn)
Sacha & Xanthe (or Xanthia)
Sacha & Tabitha
Sacha & Charity
Sacha & Erica
Sacha & Siobhan
Sacha & Elsa
Sacha & Esme
Sacha & Martha
Sacha & Lydia
Sacha & Honor

mathanxiety · 04/03/2012 23:13

Not necessarily similar sounding, but Sacha or Sasha are diminutives of Aleksander in Russian, so essentially the same name.

HoldTouchEngage · 04/03/2012 23:22

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh i see! Hmm

welovesausagedogs · 04/03/2012 23:31

I think Sascha and Scarlet would be lovely together.

Or
Sascha and Louisa
Sascha and Erin
Sascha and Ava
Sascha and Elsa --- This combination sound really pretty
Sascha and Grace
Sascha and Tessa
Sascha and Milla

HoldTouchEngage · 05/03/2012 00:15

We love sausage dogs - i agree when reading my list back i ADORE sacha and elsa!!!!!!!!!

NotnOtter · 05/03/2012 17:31

My daughter is Alexandra nn Sacha so I would not entertain Alex - same name!

abbypumpkin · 06/03/2012 21:00

I don't see any problem using sacha and Alex and think alex is a great name. They may have originated from the same name but they are very different sounding. It's no different to me for someone to use elizabeth and isabel. I wouldn't worry about the Russian issue. I don't think Alex is used in Russian- as you say sacha is the diminutive of alexandr but this is a boys name in Russian soi can't see why this should be a problem at all.
Other than that I love the name Isabel

Crocodilio · 08/03/2012 10:36

Can I hijack quickly - love the name Sacha, but is there a gender difference between spelling it Sacha or Sascha, or is it just personal preference?

jeanjeannie · 08/03/2012 11:41

My husband spells it Sasa (with a tiny 'v') about the 2nd 'S' and that is from the Serbian way of spelling it. My Lativian friend (a girl - called Alexandra) spells hers in English as Sasha. So I think it's a personal preference but I'm no expert!
