Final, final 4 DD2 names. What do you think?

I think we are finally there (after other seemingly final lists!). Interested in comments, especially regarding nn-should we just go for that as a shorter name (which is the aim with our long surname) or have a "grown up" name too?

Not sure about a middle name for the last 2, so again any ideas appreciated!

Miranda Rose (Mimi)-I love Mimi, should her name be just that? Or the longer version-but don't like Mandy as a nn! DH would "go along" with this one!

Lucinda Faye/Violet (Lucy)-DH choice, I think it's a bit safe?

Scarlett (Letty)- We both like it, but is it too popular? Do I care?!

Dulcie - I love it, DH not really keen (but he picked DD1 so I could push for this!)

Thank you so much for looking- I'm going round in circles and want a few different views.

Miranda by a second country mile.

I think most people call their children by a nickname of their choice. It's merely an expression of affection. And yes I did make a bit of a thing of stating what nn we would be using because one of the other common nicknames for dd's full name I do not like at all. It's funny how people are quite anti you choosing a nickname for your child but get very stroppy about 'your child, you get to name it' when other situations come up.

Anyway, I love Miranda (and Miranda Hart actually who is anything but an oaf) and Mimi is lovely. I like Miri too.

I like Miranda and Lucinda. Agree it's good to have a long name as it means nn are usually proper names too iykwim.

I really don't like Mimi. I know someone with a DD with this nn and for some reason it always makes me think of a 40 year old woman tottering around in a flimsy nighty with those "kitten heel" fluffy slippers. Sorry I don't know where this comes from.

melika · 07/03/2012 09:17

miranda or lucinda.

fairimum · 07/03/2012 10:42

The Mimi I know is an Amelia

EllenParsons · 07/03/2012 19:13

I love Lucy (but not Lucinda). Lucy is definitely the best IMO. Scarlett and Miranda are okay but not Mimi!

Why has OP not come back?

littlepie · 07/03/2012 20:22

I'm back! Still pondering....3 weeks to go and woke up a few nights ago distraught telling DH I hated all the names we liked!

It's really useful to hear peoples' views. I am still favouring Miranda (I think!) with Mimi as nn. I do like Mimi as a name but I think when she's older it might be nice for her to have a more formal name (as some people suggested).

Newly added is Francesca-maybe a possibility but not sure I like Fran/Frankie.

I think I've gone off Scarlett a bit. Still feel the same about Lucinda/Lucy. Interesting about the 1940 comment about Dulcie-that may be why I like it.

Saw Lettice mentioned on another post, I've always loved that name. Now if I had a free reign......but DH won't even consider it!

I think we'll keep the list and see what she looks like- I will let you know what we eventually decide! If anyone has any other suggestions/comments feel free!

I love Mimi, but only if prenounced 'Mim-ee' and not 'Mee-Mee'. Not too fussed about the other :)

littlepie · 07/03/2012 20:39

Just seen a thread about Cordelia...that was on my original list. I think I'll have to put it back on. I'm meant to be cutting the list not adding to it!

Scarlett

birdofthenorth · 07/03/2012 22:09

Love Miranda/Mimi and Lucinda/Lucy. Violet would be great as either first or middle name. Rose does sounds nice with Miranda but it is very overdone as a middle name.

winkle2 · 08/03/2012 22:48

I like Mimi, Lucinda and Violet from your list.

FilterCoffee · 08/03/2012 23:22

I wouldn't add Cordelia, your other choices are nicer and less pretentious

GavisonandOn · 09/03/2012 08:10

I like Miranda Rose best, followed by Lucinda Faye.

Scarlett is not ym cup of tea. Dulcie is dreadful.

marshmallowpies · 09/03/2012 08:43

Miranda is my current no 1 choice so I am definitely in favour! Not sure what nn we will end up with as Mimi is pretty inoffensive but at the same time, a bit twee...and DH hates Mandy...I am veering towards calling her Mim, Min or Mo. I think Mindy is sweet...but DH vetoed that on grounds of 'Mork and...'

Of course we may not end up giving her a permanent nn at all, it's not a dealbreaker for me that there HAS to be a nn, but I can imagine myself wanting to use some shortened version.

I definitely think Miranda Hart is a positive association for the name - I'd always imagined Mirandas as willowy and elfin, neither of which I am, so was a bit worried it might be a bit inappropriate. Then remembered Miranda Hart who is extremely cool, funny and not elfin, and all was well.

There's also Miranda Richardson who is about as cool as you can get...Queenie from Blackadder...so the name has no negative connotations for me really.

Cordelia and Lucinda are both pretty too...what about Lucia as well, not many of those to the pound...

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/03/2012 22:14

Like Miranda but Rose bores me. Hate Lucinda and hate Dulcie. Like Faye.

I'd go for Miranda Faye!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/03/2012 22:16

Lettice is hideous, sorry and Cordelia is the sort of name that people who have read a couple of books and want to sound 'clever' choose imho.

Miranda is so, so much prettier than these.

Also - Marianne.

littlepie · 06/04/2012 16:32

So she's here and after all that thought she looks like none of the above!

Instead we've decided on Freya (probably with Loveday as a middle name).

Just goes to show that you can think about names all day but until you meet your DC you can never be sure!

Thanks for all of your opinion, it was fun.
