But this is DH's shortlist... any thoughts?

My DD is Matilda (But we call her Tilly.)

Harry
Samuel
Wilbur
Felix
Jasper
Flynn
Chester
Rafferty
Edward (nn Teddy)
Wilson
Rupert
Theo
Henry

Or any suggestions in the same vein? I'm trying to think of what we call a second tier name.. nothing too normal, but not too out there iyswim. When I thought of Matilda for my DD I LOVED it, and I felt really excited. No boys names do that for me!! Help please....

I like Henry, Felix, Edward and Samuel best of your list. Also like Theo as nickname.

Harry - would only use as nn for Harry
Samuel - like
Wilbur - too "old man"
Felix - like
Jasper - OK
Flynn - too surnamey and similar to the faddy popular Finn
Chester - again, too surnamey/place namey
Rafferty - too frilly
Edward (nn Teddy) - like Edward, but not Teddy
Wilson - surname
Rupert - too posh
Theo - like, but would use Theodore as full name
Henry - like

Grin. Both my DSes are in your list, OP!

PastGrace · 25/02/2012 23:19

I love Edward, but I would have reservations about Tilly and Teddy. Sounds like a new children's TV show. My favourites from your list are Wilbur, Rupert and Theo.

Is James too everyday? I think Tilly and James is nice. Or what about Wilfred? Archie?

Peter, Nathaniel, Adam, Aaron? Bartholomew? You could call him Tolly. :o Tilly and Tolly sounds like a nursery rhyme.

Everett?

We are in exactly the same situation as you! We could have named several girls, but are struggling to find one boy name that we 100% love. We are also seeking something that is not too common, but not too weird either. Our top name at the moment is Monty, but still not 100% on it - and currently have no others on our list!

joanofarchitrave · 26/02/2012 08:00

Sebastian? It's a lot more common than it used to be, but still relatively unusual while being familiar for spelling etc. And Seb is a great NN.

ripsishere · 26/02/2012 08:17

Duncan or Adrian or Gavin.
