So we are fairly settled on Frederick if bump turns out to be a boy but if it's a girl we are struggling. I like the idea of long'ish fairly formal classic name which can have a pretty nickname. Our list at the moment is:

Florence - shortened to Florrie or Flossie (although Florrie is my parents' dog's name so am a bit worried about that!)
Beatrice
Camilla - shortened to Milly (any other suggestions for other Milly names gratefully received!)
Claudia
Aurelia - not sure what this could be shortened to.

Look forward to hearing your views and other suggestions!

I like Camilla and Claudia best. If you have a Florence now, you wouldn't really be able to have a Frederick in the future (in my opinion) because Freddie and Flossie is a bit extreme!

msbuggywinkle · 15/02/2012 17:38

I love Beatrice and Camilla. Do you want more suggestions?

PestoPenguin · 15/02/2012 17:39

manicinsomniac · 15/02/2012 19:07

Florence - It's ok. Prefer Flora to Flossie/Florrie as a nn
Beatrice - not keen
Camilla - pretty. The ones I know are Milla rather than Milly but Milly works
Claudia - not keen
Aurelia - interesting. Never met one before. nn - Lia? Rilla?

How about
Arabella, Alexandra, Cecilia, Emmeline, Felicity, Francesca, Georgina, Henrietta, Isabella, Juliette, Katherine, Matilda, Miranda, Madeleine, Natalie, Natasha, Olivia, Philippa, Rebecca, Sophia, Tabitha, Victoria.

flopsy1974 · 16/02/2012 07:50

I love Beatrice from your list. Not so keen on the others Smile

CharlieBoo · 16/02/2012 09:53

I love Beatrice too. Florence is a bit 'now'. I wouldn't describe it as a classic either.

How about Alice or Elizabeth? Emily or Charlotte?

BillyBollyBandy · 16/02/2012 09:55

I have a Claudia so am a little biased!

Stellan · 16/02/2012 11:24

I like Florence but not Florrie or Flossie. How about Felicity instead? Fliss is a pretty nickname. From your list, my favourite is Camilla. It's less popular than Beatrice or Camilla and, in my opinion, prettier than Claudia and Aurelia. I find Aurelia a little bit of a mouthful to say, to be honest!

You might like:
Catherine (Katy, Kitty)
Charlotte (Charlie, Lottie)
Elizabeth (Betsy, Betty, Libby, Lizzy, etc.)
Philippa (Pippa)
Matilda (Tilly)
Georgina (Georgie, Genie)
Cecilia (Celia)
Theodora (Dora)
Susannah (Susie)
Edith (Edie)
Clementine (Clemmy)
Josephine (Josie)
Lilian/Liliana (Lily)
Rosamund (Rosie)
Frances (Franny)
Sarah (Sadie)
Eleanor (Ellie, Nell)
Penelope (Penny)
Adelaide (Addy)
Violet (Vi)
Harriet (Hattie)
Annabel (Annie)
Dorothy (Dotty)
Louisa (Lou, Lula)

Camilla is still my frontrunner though.

Was watching Roger and Val last night with DD, and there was mention of Mrs Danvers. And we thought of Rececca, but also...

Daphne

which is a pretty name.

Aurelia is beautiful and you hardly ever hear it. nn Lia, Ray/Rae? (do you need a shortening??)

TinkerMaloo · 17/02/2012 18:08

mumtocuddlebundle · 17/02/2012 18:30

MrsSpecialK · 23/02/2012 11:39

Thank you everyone. Think Camilla is running top of my original list but now also considering:

Arabella

Millicent (DH not keen tho thinks it sounds a bit too militant!)

also possibly Cordelia (Cora, Corrie, Delia for short)
