I am useless at names. I've narrowed it down, but really how am I meant to choose? DC2 is due next Monday, and we don't know if it's a boy or girl. We've had 5 scans for medical reasons, but in all of them baby has been hiding it's bits!

So, for a boy I have Cameron, Jack or Daniel (no nothing to do with the drink) with the middle name of Peter for all the men in my family.

For a girl, we have Tina, Zoe and Kaylee. Middle name is Lily for family the other side, but I quite like that for a first name. Cousin who I don't see a lot - couple of times a year - pinched Lily before I got it, and we both want to use it for our Nan who died a few years back. Would I be out of order to use it too? Or should I just have it for a middle name? Opinions on names needed please!

Jack for a boy
Lily is my favourite out of the girls names. My sister and one of our cousins have the same name and it's never been a problem

Psammead · 13/02/2012 21:05

I think you're fine to use Lily. Is the surname different?

Dislike Kaylee.
Tina is interesting - don't know any baby Tinas, so it's not too common.
Zoe is quite nice, but doesn't go with Lily.

Daniel is my fave from your boys' names.
Jack is ok, but Jack Peter sounds odd to my ears.
Cameron is fine.

laurissarawson · 13/02/2012 21:06

jack for a boy deffinately
can;t really picture a baby called tina, but i love zoe kaylee and lily!
if you like the name lily, call her that if its a girl, i dont think it matters if its a cousin who got the same name

No problem sharing a name with a cousin. My uncle wanted my name for his daughter but decided he couldn't so went for the next closest (just a letter change), but my mum always said he should have just called his daughter the same as me.

I like Daniel Peter for a boy.

To be honest I prefer lily from all of your girl names

HeidiHole · 13/02/2012 21:10

I like all the boys names, and prefer Lily from the girls names.

You absolutely can use it!

TheCuntwormUnderfoot · 13/02/2012 21:11

Zoe is really nice, but doesn't go with Lily... If you're worried about offending your cousin, how about Zoe Lilith?

Now that is fab, and unusual!

CecilyP · 13/02/2012 21:11

I like all your boy's choices, but am not keen on any of your girl's except for Lily. I think it would be fine to use Lily as there are several duplicate names among my cousins' children and it isn't a problem.

Stropzilla · 13/02/2012 21:16

I will just say, Kaylee isn't mine! DH likes it from Firefly. Zoe Lilith is quite good! Think DH would have that one but this name is my choice :)

I like Daniel best. Daniel Peter sounds nice. I don't like Jack.
I think you should use Lily as a first name and not worry that your cousin has used it, especially if you don't see them very often. I do really like CuntWorm's suggestion of Zoe Lilith!

manicinsomniac · 13/02/2012 23:03

I like Jack the bes of the boys' names

Of the girls I think I like Zoe. Kaylee is okay but I'd prbably spell it Kayleigh or Kayley (or Kaylie? I have no idea what the actual spelling is, you see so many (US?) variants!) I don't lie Tina

I think you could use Lily but I'd have reservations. I have two cousins with the same name. I think there were a few raised eyebrows but nothing serious. Except that the younger 'version' is 12 years younger than the older, is now aged 16 and nearly 6ft tall but still known almost exclusively in the family as 'Little X'!

rainnie · 13/02/2012 23:15

Zoe means life and Lily means pure, a lovely sentiment for your daughter. I like all the boys names, but do consider that names get shorten (cammy and Danny). Also look at the words that rhyme with them, my poor step daughter gets Ellie with the jelly belly.

PopcornBiscuit · 14/02/2012 00:06

Cameron - too prime minister
Jack - was number 1 boys name for years, so very overdone. John with nickname Jack would be better IMHO
Daniel - very nice, and Daniel Peter would go very well

Tina - like as nickname for Christina. Christina Lily would be lovely - and there's no reason to let your cousin's choice stop you using Lily
Zoe - a bit harsh
Kaylee - not keen

LizzieChickens · 14/02/2012 00:25

I wondered about the Firefly link with both Zoe and Kaylee as choices! :) Of your choices, I like Zoe best.

nooka · 14/02/2012 05:41

I like Daniel Peter best of your boys names (Jack just too frequently used, Cameron too Tory right now). I don't see an issue with sharing a name with a second cousin who you only see occasionally, but you could always use a longer version, as well as Lilith there is Lilian, Liliana or even Lilibeth.

I have a lovely friend who is a Tina so I like the name. Her full name is Christianna, but you could also go for Christina, Martina, or one of the many girls names ending in 'tine'.

My dd also was very coy in scans, even the ones we had just before she was born. My guess is that you'll be having a dd :)

Charlotteperkins · 14/02/2012 09:34

Christianna is v nice.

sparkle12mar08 · 14/02/2012 09:41

The boys names are all lovely, the girls names - not so much! Back to the drawing board I think. Kaylee is just awful, Tina and Zoe are both very dated and not in a good way, and Lily is far too popular now. I like Libby as a shortening for Elizabeth, or Lilith as mentioned above. Elizabeth Lily is quite nice altogether too.

winterland · 14/02/2012 10:13

Love Cameron, the girls names don't appeal really, apart from Lily.

manicinsomniac · 14/02/2012 12:03

Zoe isn't dated, it's still in the top 100!

abbypumpkin · 08/03/2012 13:52

Use Lily - not an issues if you don't see each other much. Don't think any of your names would go as a mn for it though.
Kaylee def wouldn't work with mn Lily.

Love Jack. Daniel is nice too

GavisonandOn · 08/03/2012 14:50

I love Daniel and Lily. Not Kaylee - awful!

Crazytictac · 08/03/2012 19:01

Like Cameron and Jack. Bit meh about Daniel.

Zoe is lovely but the other two are er not so lovely.

marshmallowpies · 09/03/2012 08:58

Some people might think this is a bit old-fashioned...but what about Lilian? I think it's got rather a nice ring to it, and of course could always be called Lily as a nn. Don't really like Lilith at all.

The other name I love which is v similar to your choices is Nina instead of Tina. Though I quite like Tina too!
