We are keeping baby's name a secret to everyone we know, and are currently leaning towards Monty. I am having doubts about it though - and would appreciate opinions on the name. Thank you!

I know a 12 year old Monty and it really suits him (think he's Montgomery, but you could go with Montague or Montmorency...though that is the name of the dog in Three Men in a Boat, so might not solve the canine issue!)

Pics now on profile (I think)

MitchieInge · 03/02/2012 13:25

I don't know if iPad is being unhelpful or if your name is just not clickable?

ExitPursuedByaBear · 03/02/2012 13:26

Try again - I had not set up my public profile but think I have done it now.

MitchieInge · 03/02/2012 13:31

Yay!

Oh look at him, they find water everywhere don't they? How old is he? Am bit Envy of his hair do and his curly tummy. Is yours self cleaning? Mine gets coated in mud but it just disappears (all over my car probably) and he goes glowy white as if by magic an hour or so later.

ExitPursuedByaBear · 03/02/2012 13:37

He is 4. He has never been glowy white in his life. He curls himself up under my chair and I think all the mud drops off there when dried, but he does hang on to a fair amount in his tail.

MitchieInge · 03/02/2012 13:40

Mine is 4! 5 in April. I just looked at my pic again, he's sitting on mud soup at the entrance to our field and still looks clean. He is a noble spaniel. :)

ExitPursuedByaBear · 03/02/2012 13:46

Ah, you see, if you think that is mud soup, that proves you are a softy southerner who gets very little rain! (I have a thread in The Tack Room about mud rash Sad)

I also think you must spray your dog with something to repel mud Grin

We have now completely hijacked a name thread.

Sorry!

MitchieInge · 03/02/2012 13:50

No I promise you, round the haylage rack it goes over the top of my boots.

Sorry you have mud fever. I'd be fucked if we got it again because mine won't go in stables at all now :( is it bad? Did you try muddy marvel? Or I could just look for thread!

MitchieInge · 03/02/2012 13:51

(we do get very little rain I think, on average?)

sorry op! Blush

suburbandream · 03/02/2012 14:28

Beautiful pictures Mitchie and Exit Smile I have a Monty too but mine is a cat Grin

ArielNonBio · 03/02/2012 14:32

Pip pip Monty. Let's given those Jerries a damn good thrashing. Last one to Tangier is a rotten egg.

That's what it reminds me of. Sorry. Though Field Marshall Montgomery is a fine person to name a child after, IMO.

DumSpiroSpero · 03/02/2012 14:35

My DD's best friend has a favourite teddy called Monty!

I also know a little boy called Monty though, and he's gorgeous. I think it's one of those names that people might be a bit Shock Hmm when you first tell them, but in a very short time will be saying how they couldn't imagine your LO being anything else Smile.

suburbandream · 03/02/2012 14:37

Ariel! Grin

ED1984 · 04/02/2012 05:44

suemerry - we would go with just Monty if we do use it. We don't like any of the longer versions.

I'm not terribly keen on Monty (breaking the trend a little to me it is a cats name, or someone ever so posh) but think most of all you should choose a name that you. However I do think Monty on it's own isn't a great choice, because if your child doesn't really like it much there are no nickname possibilities that I can see as (Mon? Ty?). But then I really don't like nicknames as full names in any case.

muffinino82 · 04/02/2012 23:53

My first thought is the gorgeous, talented Monty Clift although I won't mention the latter part of his life, so I like it. He was a Montgomery and was fairly posh.

Second thought is one of my favourite quotes ever, from Withnail & I. This only increases its value in my eyes :o
