A baby brother for Sophia Joy...?

What would you pick from this shortlist for a baby brother for Sophia Joy? Of course will wait to see what the new little man's like when he comes in 8 weeks! (btw - it's just a strong hunch that it's a boy - perfect girls names are also very welcome)

Criteria - I sometimes regret not going more 'original' for dd1's name, but I do love a classicaly beautiful name.

  • Middle names will be Paul Adam (or Adam Paul) - both names essential.
  • Surname is Hays

Shortlist: Daniel, Benjamin, Solomon, Grayson - or if feeling braver- Otto, Arlo, Nathaniel, Damian, Vincent, Benedict.

Thanks!

Your braver list is much nicer. (Love Otto and Arlo and Vincent)

peggyblackett · 31/01/2012 20:47

Prefer the braver list too. Love, love, love Benedict - was on our shortlist for dc3 (who is a girl :)).

PopcornBiscuit · 31/01/2012 23:49

My top two would be...

Benedict Paul Adam
Nathaniel Adam Paul

IHeartKingThistle · 31/01/2012 23:53

Grayson is cool but Nathaniel is loooovely, and has lovely short versions (Nat, Nate).

chummymummy7 · 01/02/2012 11:09

I'm surprised - I thought everyone would suggest Daniel and Benjamin.
Glad that everyone's feeling the more interesting names.
DH thinks Benedict is too 'now' and faddy because of the Sherlock/Cumberbatch frenzy!

Please come opinions coming - even if you hate any of them or have other suggestions

Just some suggestions, do you like:-

Reuben
Howard
Frazer
Quentin
Sebastian
Nicholas
Reggie
Fabian

I really like your dd's name btw.

From your list I like Vincent A LOT. I used to like Benedict, until another poster commented on another thread that it sounded like "bendy dick". Unfortunately it ruined the name for me, but it's worth having it pointed out now to save on potential teasing.

chummymummy7 · 01/02/2012 15:04

note to self: must be braver!
crocodilesmiles - thanks....i do like Reuben but dh not too sure. Howard is my dad and the others feel a bit too 'posh' for us. Fabian's pretty good, I also like Finnian.

So Vincent's looking a strong contender - but what do we think of the nn Vince? Isn't it a bit....east end thug?

Oh no, I really like Vince too. I don't think it's a thug's name.

I love the name Vincent...In fact I have secretly loved it ever since I was a little girl. I won't ever be able to use it now though as it's already been used in my husband's family :-(

Make sure you like the nickname Vinny though as that's what our family's Vincent gets.

As far as Fabian goes, the Fabian I know is a teenager and gets the shortening of Fab...which I think is a cool / positive nickname

Rhubarbgarden · 01/02/2012 15:40

I love Otto. And Benedict, as long as it isn't shortened to Ben.

What an excellent name your daughter has ;)
