Hi,
Would love to hear opinions on the baby girl's name 'Willow'.

This was one of my favourites, but we couldn't use it really because it was the no. 1 girl's choice for my DP & his ex (they had a son in the end, but still a bit of a delicate issue.)

Before I decided not to use it on those grounds I put it out there as one of our possible choices, and most people loved it, but for some people their first thought was the fantasy film Willow with Warwick Davis. I don't think it would have put me off, but that might be some people's reaction...

Love the name Willow, I couldnt use it as I have a W surname and it would just sound silly.

I like Willow, I also like Rowan - but certain people will make an assocciation with Wicca, espetially if you use both.

Otherwise - well it is Buffy character but ny the time she is at school no one will care

Willow is more suitable for animals, particularly ponies !

I love it but DH vetoed. We gave a really pretty surname and he's worried that it would be too 'reedy'. Whatever that means. I'm a Holly so quite liked the tree connection!

Willow is a fantastic film with a central (male dwarf) character named Willow. <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=willow+film&hl=en&sa=X&biw=1366&bih=643&tbm=isch&prmd=imvns&tbnid=TS84cc7ZVk3syM:&imgrefurl=www.nerdnexus.com/midget-exploitation-i-can-get-behind/&docid=89lZjQqu-BpZ4M&imgurl=www.nerdnexus.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/Willow.jpg&w=1500&h=977&ei=94A6T5PoK4ifOuG8yZ8C&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=985&vpy=190&dur=2551&hovh=181&hovw=278&tx=160&ty=103&sig=112828975415034691285&page=1&tbnh=130&tbnw=162&start=0&ndsp=22&ved=1t:429,r:6,s:0" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">here if link works.

So, not a name for a girl for me ... or for anybody outside a fantasy adventure film IMO.

I love the name Willow. it's a bit different without being too "different".

(if that makes sense)

MandaM11 · 15/02/2012 09:52
