We have DD1 - Lucy (Lucinda, but she never gets called that!) could you please give opinions on our shortlist for DD2?

Meredith nn Merry or Millie (I know Millie is sometimes considered "chav" on here!)
Dorothy
Gwendolyn / Gwyneth nn Gwen
Ruth

Thanks.

I love love Meredith. Its beautiful, loving Merry for a nn.
Dorothy is a bit old fashioned for my liking but it is a nice name.
I prefer Gwyneth to Gwendolyn but love Gwen.
I don't like Ruth at all sorry.

PopcornBiscuit · 24/01/2012 10:20

Ruth or Dorothy

marshmallowpies · 24/01/2012 10:34

Like Meredith the most but they are all great. Ruth is such a lovely, classic, underused name.

SoFarWeAreEqual · 24/01/2012 11:37

Meredith is lovely. I saw it in the credits of a TV programme the other day and it stood out to me then - pretty and unusual.

Not sure about Dorothy, sorry.

Don't like Gwendolyn and Gwyneth/Gwen are a bit Welsh 'old lady' for me.

Ruth is very pretty - I like this a lot.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 24/01/2012 11:42

Love Dorothy, what would you use as a NN? Dottie?

Ruth is fab, as are both the Ruths I know.

Only know one Merry (Meredith) and its a boy.

Gwendolyn just makes me think of Wallace and Gromit.

crocodilesmiles · 24/01/2012 12:03

Out of your names I like Meredith. Nice shortened to Merry or Merrily!

shouldnotbehere · 24/01/2012 12:05

I love Ruth.

Also love Gwendolen nn Gwen

SanctiMOANious · 24/01/2012 12:57

I have a friend called Merewyn. Thought you might like it as it's a bit of a mix of Meredith and Gwendolen. I think it's Welsh?

SanctiMOANious · 24/01/2012 12:57

PS: Merewyn is generally called Merry and I think it's lovely.

dippydoodah · 24/01/2012 13:00

Meredith nn Merry for me!

MyLifeIsStillChaotic · 24/01/2012 13:01

I like Meredith nn Merry (hate Millie though) and Gwendolyn nn Gwen best.

YodasMummy · 25/01/2012 13:56

Thanks - think I'm leaning towards Meredith or Ruth, but can't quite let go of Gwen (it's a Welsh thing!)
Middle names will be Tegan Elinor.

Meredith is nice but i cant see how milly could be nickname!?

CharlieBoo · 25/01/2012 14:48

Love Dorothy and LOVE Dotty even more...my dd's nickname, but she's not a Dorothy...

flopsy1974 · 25/01/2012 15:12

Love Meredith and Ruth. Ruth is a classic which seems so underused at the moment.
My DH adores Gwen but I'm not keen on the long versions of it.

3boysgirlontheway · 25/01/2012 15:31

I love Meredith, it is very pretty.

Stars22 · 27/01/2012 21:48

I like Meredith best from your list.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/01/2012 21:50

Love Meredith/Merry (Millie doesn't work imho)
Love Gwendolyn
Love Ruth
Hate Tegan

YodasMummy · 28/01/2012 00:37

Lol, I'm not a great fan of tegan either, but its DHs favourite name ever, so he said that if I will allow it as a middle name, I get to pick the first name :-)

JiltedJohnsJulie · 28/01/2012 12:42

Tegan is quite a common name around here.

Ephiny · 28/01/2012 14:09

Meredith is my favourite from your first-name list, Merry would be more intuitive as a nickname, but Millie/Milly nice too. I like Gwyneth, but not keen on the others.

I absolutely love Tegan Elinor though, if it was me I'd make that the full name (or Elinor Tegan maybe).

DharmaCeutical · 28/01/2012 14:15

Ruth is beautiful. Helen / Seren also have a similar simple-but-beautiful feel (are you in Wales, btw?)

I have a v. sophisticated New Yorker friend called Meredith and I have always loved her name. She'd die before she'd let anyone shorten it, though Wink

The others don't appeal to me personally, but they're not awful!
