Well, if someone told me their daughter was Lorella, I would probably refrain from being rude. But if someone asked me what I thought of it, I would be honest! (PS. I hope it is not your name. xx)

MamaLazarou · 23/01/2012 14:03

BTW - I LOVE Valentine. We need more Valentines in the world.

Bonsoir · 23/01/2012 14:15

Valentine is a very pretty name - much the prettiest on the OP's list.

Lora69 · 23/01/2012 14:18

Hi, it is Italian. I used to work with an Italian girl by the name of Lorella when I was 16; it was my first job (bar/restaurant job) and she was a few years older than me and gorgeous so of course I worshipped her. She was the spitting image of Shakira! Her friends used to call her Lol as a nickname.

It actually means 'Little Laurel'. It is a rare, not oft used name. My partner adores it, I did do once upon a time and would now need persuading back. He however would need persuading for Phoebe- seems to think it would only work on a blonde! (Thank you Friends :( ) x

How about Laurel? That's a lovely name.

Lora69 · 23/01/2012 14:33

Hey, im not that keen on Laurel.. I do quite like it, but its the literal translation of my own name so a bit too close for me. Valentine was just an idea, but not if it makes Lorella sound Mills and Boon! hahaha, I also like Lorella Florence and a few others..
But I have scribbed this one off now. It will be down to Phoebe or Meredith.. I need to work on OH for both though..

Can I ask for face mn's with these 2 first names? Thank you

fave!

I do appreciate honest feedback by the way :)

Phoebe, Meredith and Valentine are all nice names, IMO.

Not keen on Lorella, as with certain regional accents it could sound very brash.

Meredith Valentine would actually work well. Or how about:
Meredith Emmeline
Meredith Antoinette
Meredith Rosalie
Meredith Sophie

How many syllables in your (baby's) last name?

cakeismysaviour · 23/01/2012 14:46

Don't like Meredith and not keen on Lorella. Phoebe is nice and I really like Willow. :)

Lora69 · 23/01/2012 14:51

Surname is one long syllable and begins with Sh and ends in es. It is very soft sounding. Phoebe Willow goes with it beautifully.

I do like Meredith Valentine and Rosalie. I dont know whether it is very bad that the initials for Meredith would be M.S? :/

With a one-syllable last name, you can definitely get away with two 3-syllable names :)

I wouldn't worry about MS :)

MerryMarigold · 23/01/2012 15:23

I do prefer it now I know it means little Laurel... And with a more normal middle name, it would tone it down. But don't blame me if she marries a Drogo!

Otherwise Meredith. We ummed and ahhd between Meredith and M*rissa after dd was born and I was in hospital. Went for the latter in the end,

Lora69 · 23/01/2012 15:47

I really love both Phoebe and Meredith.. Phoebe is the one I think we will go for as it feels more right (to me at least!). I think Meredith is a little more interesting though, maybe a bit more serious. (which is bad for us as we are a bit of an easy going/dizzy couple.)

I am just concerned that OH has it in his head that he really wants Lorella, and if I cant persuade him otherwise what the likely public reaction to that would be.. I have had bad feedbak in the past on the name.

I really want Phoebe (unless she 'looks/feels' more like a Merry) but if I end up with Lorella I want to feel it wouldnt be the end of the world. I dont like others views on the name though!!! xx

Merry Marigold, what sort of name would you suggest with Lorella? X

OP posts:
MerryMarigold · 23/01/2012 15:57

Well Florence was good. I think Florence is more serious than Meredith! Or Jane? One syllable would be good and something quite plain. How about Kate?

Will she be Lolly as a nn?

IslaValargeone · 23/01/2012 15:57

Lorella is a bit too Grand Ole Opry for me, Phoebe is a bit meh.
Meredith is nice but actually I think Raine is lovely.

Lora69 · 23/01/2012 16:03

Yeh, my partner said she would be called Lolly when I asked him the same question. But I was Lolly as a teen! :/ :)

My middle name is Jane lol. Kate is very classy I like that..

I am not sure what Grand Ole Opry is Isla I am sorry! Would you use Raine as a first name then? I have heard of Raina before also. I quite like these what I would call earthy names (of which Lorella obv isnt one!)

phoebemeryll · 23/01/2012 16:05

I think Phoebe, obviously!

FitForLife · 23/01/2012 16:34

I know a phoebe with classic dark skin tone and dark hair. It's a greek name so works with those colours imo.

I like Meredith too.

IslaValargeone · 23/01/2012 20:01

Sorry Lora, a bit too country and Western.
Raine is fabulous, I would definitely cosider it as a first name. I think the Countess of somewhere or other was called Raine? Earl Spencer's wife.

BustersOfDoom · 23/01/2012 20:20

Phoebe. Tis the name of my GGG GM. A self made woman. Born in poverty, had an illegitimate child in 1855 that she brought up doing endless back breaking jobs, married twice and ended her years owning and running a boarding house for respectable business travellers. Strong name for a strong woman.

Quite like Raine tho but I do remember reading that Diana - Raine was her Step Mother - and her siblings used to sing 'Raine, Raine go away....' at her.

shouldnotbehere · 24/01/2012 11:20

Phoebe

smother · 24/01/2012 12:49

Meredith is the best of the bunch. Lots of Phoebes around and Lorella is not nice.

What about Loretta?

SLVC · 24/01/2012 16:24

Phoebe easily the nicest. And regards difficulty in pronounciation, my DD knows two Phoebes and all their friends have coped with saying it just fine.. Meredith seems very American and akin to Madison which I hate.. undecided on Lorella, not overly keen..
