What do you think of Madalena as a girl's name? It's listed on Mumsnet's Baby Name Finder.

I think it's Maddalena - the only girls I know called this are Italian and it is definitely spelled with two ds in Italian. English is Madeleine.

My brother's girlfriend is called Madalina (Romanian) - I really like it!

Jakeyesqwellthisisnew · 18/01/2012 11:05

To dd's then it's italian
Madeleine is the more french/but used in english
Madeline is the more English/used still in french
Magdalone is the Danish (I think)

They are all Magdalene (which I love - may be biased though - lots of jokes though)

Lots of nn possible an

I can't stand anything that can be shortened to the heinous "Maddy" and this falls into that category for me. All I see is the 'mad' bit.

MamaLazarou · 18/01/2012 15:30

It's OK. Magdalena is much nicer.

thrillahkillah · 18/01/2012 20:14

prefer Madeleine.

pootlebug · 18/01/2012 20:19

Like MamaLazarou I prefer Magdalena. And also has the advantage of being shortened to Magda rather than Maddy.

Another one who dislikes MAD-dy or MAD-alina as I see it as someone who is MAD, sorry.

I much prefer Magdalena!
