Tabitha or Ursula?

Just like my Kit or Reuben thread, I thought I'd throw my girl names out there!

Pick one:

Tabitha (possible nicknames of Tabi or Bee... or none)
or
Ursula (nn. Lulu or Ursh)*

*Please be a bit gentle with me about this name (hormal, just pregnant, sick and miserable lady here) - I'm aware of the sea witch, aware that some find it clunky, but I love it and my husband is 100% on board with it :)

I should add, you love both names, why not wait and see if she looks like a tabitha or an ursula? we didn't really decided who she was until we saw her. :)

Ursula if you must, but my DDs endlessly played a little mermaid video.
However, My prefered name for DD was veto due to it being someone famous.
Of course no one younger than 30 would have cared.

St Urusla.
Love the name, never liked anyone called it (old horrible aunt - she was an Uschi and a scary nun)
Tabitha is a Cat - but I like Dorcas. (same woman)

Snapespeare - good taste! We have a Matilda. Next one will be Tabitha or Athena!

I know Tabitha has cat connotations, but so...? ALL names have connotations (my latest clanger was telling SIL "Anouk, as in a nook and cranny"?.... thankfully she had a boy) and a cat is not a bad one (I've heard people say the same about Felix).

persephoneplum · 18/01/2012 12:21

Hehehe, I'm cat crazy - doesn't worry me in the slightest. I have a Felix already and a Tabitha would be the icing on the cat cake :)

For me, the big no-no is Nicholas - all I think is "Without underpants" ie. knickerless. We all have our crosses to bear with certain names and the cat association is a positive one for me.

I'm cat crazy too! :) and I LOVE the name Tabitha, with all the possible nn's - Tabi, Betty, bea, Kitty, Cat etc. I like a lot of names with "th" in actually as it makes them sound soft.
I really don't like Ursula though and I don't think many little girls would like it tbh.

crocodilesmiles · 19/01/2012 09:22

If the popularity of the names is an important factor, according to the Office of National Statistics, in 2010 (latest available stats) 281 girls were named Tabitha and 17 girls were named Ursula.

I really like Tabitha as long as it isn't shortened. Lots of people associate it with cats though as others have said.

I LOVE Ursula. I really wouldn't let the sea witch in the little mermaid put you off. The is a lovely series of books by Sheila Lavelle, about a little girl called Ursula who transforms into a bear.

lollystix · 19/01/2012 10:11

I love Tabitha (also cat crazy).

makinglemonade · 19/01/2012 15:57

I prefer Tabitha but most because I think Bee is gorgeous :)

Not so keen on Ursula though.

Takver · 19/01/2012 20:29

I like them both but probably slightly prefer Ursula of the two. The only connections that come to mind for me would be literary (the poet & the sci-fi writer) and the Catholic religion, nothing negative.

Nospringflower · 19/01/2012 23:03

I like Tabitha best although I think of Bewitched (twitches nose) rather than cat Smile

MrsJoeDuffy · 22/01/2012 00:21

Tabitha

dawn1967 · 22/01/2012 09:32

Ursula. Tabitha sounds a bit feeble and it far too popular as a pet's name.
