PutThatCatOutNow's baby name shortlist

Here's the shortlist of baby names I'm considering that I generated with Mumsnet's Baby Name Finder. Let me know what you think.

Boys
Alexander - With nn Xander or Ali
Kit - Possibly Christopher but probaby just Kit
Otis - I think it 'goes' better with the other Dc's names but it's not our favourite
Philip - love the nn Pip
Theodore - Love the nn Ted but would have to reconsider mn's if use this.

Girls
Delilah - not too sure about this but is DH's favourite
Flora - love nn Flo or Flossie
Phoebe - any good nicknames?
Thea - my favourite but DH not too keen

What do you think of the names above? We want to use either Camilla or Audrey as the middle name for a girl and have the middle names Colin James for a boy. Do you think the above names are too bland/trendy? Other DC's are Cosima, Rupert and Marnie.

That should be middle names Colin Edward for a boy.

Alexander is my favourite by a mile. Versatile, never goes out of style, lots of nicknames possible. 2nd choice Theodore.

Phoebe again my favourite by some way, just because. Only problem might be 2 girls you then have with an -ie ending name, if that would bother you. 2nd choice Thea (there's a pattern...) Audrey is lovely, don't really go for Camilla.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/01/2012 21:50

Love Christopher/Kit, Philip/Pip and Theodre/Teddy.

The girls' names don't really 'do it' for me but Thea is the nicest. Really dislike Delilah.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/01/2012 21:51

Love Audrey. Christopher Colin doesn't really work.

JestersHat · 12/01/2012 21:57

Philip is nice, an underused classic.

I also like Alexander, Theodore and Christopher, although I much prefer the traditional Alex, Theo and Chris to Xander/Ali, Ted and Kit.

Delilah is great, and Della is a nice nickname too. I like Phoebe but not sure on nicknames.

Not keen on Flora or Thea.

Montsti · 13/01/2012 06:56

I like Alexander but find the others (bar Philip) very trendy and "in" which personally puts me off..Theodore is ok if you do use the nn. Ted and not Theo which I dislike - not sure why!

Not keen on the girls names..

Kayzr · 13/01/2012 06:58

I like Phillip or Theodore.

I don't really like the girls names but Delilah is horrible.

guinealady · 13/01/2012 10:04

Not Otis. Makes me think of awful hunting advocate Otis Ferry.

Flora and Thea are the nicest out of the girls list, for me.

jaffacakehips · 13/01/2012 10:21

For me....Kit, Phoebe or Flora

Phoebe Camilla
Flora Audrey
Kit Colin James
Otis Colin James - This sounds bloody brilliant.

Delilah isn't really my cup of tea nor is Thea.

What about Xavier or Otto

Loving the fact you're thinking of just Kit.

EdithWeston · 13/01/2012 10:46

Alexander - lovely, and good range of nn
Kit - lovely as nn for Christopher
Otis - don't like
Philip - lovely, as is the nn Pip
Theodore - ok

Delilah - don't like, and think of the song
Flora - margarine, unfortunately
Phoebe - like (Fi, Feebs, Bee)
Thea - ok

PutThatCatOutNow · 13/01/2012 18:34

I think for a boy I'm definitely leaning towards Philip but DH is yet to be convinced! Still completely stuck on the girl's side.

Would you consider female versions of the boys names you like?

Philippa (Pip, Pippa), Alexandra (Xandra, Sandie, Alexa etc), Katherine or Christina (Kitty), Theodora or Dorothea?

Otis is a bit harder - Ottilie? Artemis?

PutThatCatOutNow · 13/01/2012 22:47

Katherine is very nice and Kitty is lovely. Not too keen on Theodora and Dorothea as I don't like the nn's Dotty and Dora but I do like Isadora (pos nn Issy).

I like the idea of Pip as a nn for a boy and if you like Kit (which I adore) they hav the same feel!
From the girls I think Phoebe!
Kimberly Stuwart called her daughter Delilah so there may be a lot of Delilahs on the way in the near future!

upatdawn · 14/01/2012 15:44

Alexander Colin Edward - Lovely, a classic can't go wrong with name
Kit Edward Colin - Again nice, I would have the middle names this way round though
Otis Colin Edward - Quite trendy, I think with a name like this it's good to have classic middle names (such as Colin and Edward)
Philip Colin Edward - Very nice, Pip is such a cute nn and Phil is nice for a teenaged/adult
Theodore Colin Edward - Have gone off Theodore recently, it's popular but I can't see it staying so for much longer

Favourites would be Alexander and Philip

Delilah Audrey - Okay, the nickname Lilah is very sweet
Flora Camilla - Nice again, Flossie is a lovely nickname
Phoebe Camilla - Lovely, classic name
Thea Audrey - Nice, prefer others though

Favourite would be Phoebe Camilla.
