Sylvie / Sophie

After much deliberation, DH and my current top name choice for a girl is Sylvie. DH is very difficult to please when it comes to names! He rules out virtually everything then becomes obsessed with one name! He then pointed out that Sylvie is similar to Sophie, which is my niece's name. I hadn't considered that up until then and DH is not bothered by it but I don't want to upset my sister by "copying" her name choice. So my question is, do you think they are too similar? I will mention it to my sis when I see her and see how she feels about it.

They are nothing like one another apart from the fact that they begin with an S and end with an E!

If you were saying you wanted "Sophia" then I might agree....but Sylvie is nothing like Sophie and it's a beautiful name!

not at all. Completely different names. They can't be shortened to the same thing either. No one is going to think you are copying.

FWIW I love love love Sylvie but think Sophie is a bit bland.

That's a great start, thanks. Anyone else?

Zanzi, my dd was Sylvie-Rose and dh's niece is Sophie-Anne. No-one commented at all and given that we both hyphenated the names I was expecting that there would be comments. Sadly my beautiful dd only lived for 7 weeks Sad but we got loads of positive comments on her name.

Not similar and a lovely name

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss chipmonkey.

Thanks to you both for giving your thoughts. It seems like it could be ok. I'm so pleased as it's the only name DH has loved in 30 weeks!
