Can anyone come up with 'Russian spy' names along the same lines? I also like Natasha.

Natalia? Katya?

CupOfBrownJoy · 11/01/2012 19:46

Sacha? Anouschka (sp)? Masha?

DouzeQuinze · 11/01/2012 19:54

Saskia?

EdithWeston · 11/01/2012 22:33

Nikita is definitely a boys name to me. How about Nika?

Russian spies' names made me thinkof Boris and Doris.

More helpfully (perhaps): Tatiana, Anastasia, Olga, Larisa, Daria, Ekaterina, Elizaveta, Klementina, ludmilla, Valentina, Nadezhda, Fedosia, Yuliya?

youarekidding · 11/01/2012 22:41

I know Nikita who's a girl.

I like Saskia.

Probably stating the bleedin' obvious, but the Nikita Elton John refers to in his song is a male soldier or something similar. Possibly the first thing many people will think of?

Natasha is a very pretty name.

sashh · 12/01/2012 05:48

In the video Nikita is very much a female soldier in the Elton John version.

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 12/01/2012 06:04

I have a Tatiana (little fairy) and a Nadia (hope). Tatiana is my fav. Nadia was DH's choice.
Sasha? (nn for Alexandra)

EdithWeston · 12/01/2012 07:16

Sascha/Sasha (the Cyrillic transliterates into either) is a boys name in Russia and would be odd for a girl if you want an authentically Russian theme.

TheNewandImprovedMrsHollywood · 12/01/2012 07:44

True, Sashh. I'd forgotten that - I imagine a male soldier when I hear it though. Poss cos it's traditionally a male name? Anyway, I'm wrong about the song so don't listen to me!!! As you were

Nadia is a lovely name, too.

Louplet · 12/01/2012 08:24

Nikita is a cool female assassin in the French film of the same name. I also know a 19mth old girl Nikita. Definitely in use as a girl's name.

Kayzr · 12/01/2012 08:26

I don't mind Nikita but I love Natalia

PercyFilth · 12/01/2012 10:05

Nikita Khrushchev was definitely a bloke.

Irina
Marina
Elena
Oksana

Teapot13 · 12/01/2012 13:53

Sasha can be the short form of Aleksandr or Aleksandra, so it is one of the few unisex Russian nicknames.

Nikita is a man's name in Russian, like William or Ronald. The fact that non-Russians think it sounds feminine and use it for girls doesn't change that. Like any other words, though, names change when they are borrowed into other languages and cultures.

NannyR · 12/01/2012 15:36

I know of two Indian girls called Nikita.

mathanxiety · 12/01/2012 16:24

It really is a boys' name.

How about
Ksenia
Svetlana
Galina
Zinaida
Lidija/Lidia
Vera
Milena
Zoya
Raisa
Tamara

mathanxiety · 12/01/2012 16:28

Angelika
Evgenia

Lilia
Sofia/ Sonia

xxcozxx · 13/01/2012 02:10

natasha/saskia gorgeous and in no way 'spy names' :) x

Janoschi · 13/01/2012 16:38

I wanted Nikita for our DD but there was a lot of 'boy-girl' rubbish off my DH's family. They're German and intellectual and had very fixed ideas on what was suitable for a girl (Sophia-Charlotta etc). Personally I don't care but I didn't want our DD to get stick for her name. So we picked Robin. Ha.

Ecgwynn · 13/01/2012 17:55

My favourite Russian name is Looba.

It reminds me of toilets.
