Boys names in the same vein as Fred & Arthur?

These are my top two names at the moment but DH isn't mad keen on either

Can anyone suggest a few more names that I can put forward, based on my favourites?

I'd like to stay away from top ten names if possible - something strong but not too trendy/modern (i.e. not keen on Max/Finn/Noah, love Fred, Edward/Teddy, Arthur, Henry)

DH has a thing about soft names - I love Wilfred for example but he says it's too soft

16 week scan in a few days, so hoping to get the sex of the baby confirmed... Emmeline is name of choice for a girl

Thank you

Francis Rupert is nice - woudl Frank as a nn be less soft for your dh?

Alexander
John
David
Thomas?

fredandginger · 10/01/2012 08:33

Freddy/Fred
Edward
Edmund
Arthur
George
Felix
Henry (have realised that Horrid Henry is not a good enough reason, although DH knows a Henry called Hen, so is back to saying it's a bit soft - argh!)
Alexander
Francis (although think DH will veto)

What do we think of Nicolas/Nicholas?

Nicholas is lovely. Underused in my opinion.

What about:
Charles
Dominic

hormonalmum · 10/01/2012 08:44

Seth

Littlecherublegs · 10/01/2012 09:38

Like Nicholas.

How about:
Ernest
Harry
George
Dominic
Benedict
Douglas
Patrick

??

fredandginger · 10/01/2012 10:56

Hormonalmum - We have Charlie & Dominic in the family... not so keen on Seth

Littlecherublegs, I like Benedict but NN Ben seems a little dull - but Patrick may well be a contender - thanks!

Walter, but I suspect it'd get vetoed.

JestersHat · 10/01/2012 11:24

I like Edward, Felix, Henry, Alexander, Francis and Nicholas.

Fred and Arthur are both "old man" whereas the names on your latest list are more classic.

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 10/01/2012 11:30

Just a friendly warning... The names we likes when I was 16 weeks are soooo different to the ones we liked by 42 weeks!

Having said that:

Albert
Francis
Stanley
Harry
Henry
Thomas

Any good?

fredandginger · 10/01/2012 11:39

Thanks Truth - this is DC2 so I know a little of that from last time :)

I do rather like Albert.... !

Love Thomas, but we have a Charlie, Thomas and Joseph in this house already

Herb/ie/et?

Mayvis · 10/01/2012 11:45

What about Timothy? Samuel? Matthew?

I like Edward and George from your updated list.

LineRunner · 10/01/2012 11:59

I'm wondering if there will be more interest in Charles and Edwin this year, WRG to the Charles Dickens bicentenary and the TV completion of Edwin Drood.

I know a male Pip.

TheCatInTheHairnet · 10/01/2012 12:04

I have a George and the only time he got Georgie Porgie was from FIL when he was little. FIL got
