Jasper? What kind of name is it? Some regard it as quite posh or is that less so these days? There's also the cat association! I don't want to give DS a name for which he may be teased at school. Thanks

Jasper Carrott - although I doubt any kids would remember him these days! Grin

I'm not that keen and DH hates it. It is still very posh in our area.

I think of the Twilight character now, which would probably put me off as it might become one of the current 'popular' names.

Not a huge fan of it to be honest, but I don't really think of it as posh.

GlaikitFizzog · 06/01/2012 11:04

I think of Twilight and my friends cat that humps everything in sight :o! For that reason I wouldn't use it, but I think it's a perfectly good name.

Kids don't tease just because of a name, and I can't see jasper being a teasable name.

I love the name Jasper-I knew a very posh Irish Jasper & the name suited him so well-he was also somewhat of a party animal & great fun. So I always think of it as a cool fun name-hope this helps

It does sound posh but perhaps less so these days.

poppydaisy · 06/01/2012 13:48

I don't think many names sound 'posh' anymore, I know Jaspers, Sebastians and Quentins who are very 'common', so I wouldn't worry about that.

The thing I don't like about Jasper is the possible nicknames of Jas/Jassie.

rachel234 · 06/01/2012 15:00

I quite like Jasper and agree that most names no longer sound 'posh' but wouldn't be keen on the short forms of Jas, which sounds a little feminine.

Jasper Carrot is the first thing that springs to my mind. It would be cute on a little kid. Might be a funny one for an adult.

Personally I'm not keen on it, but I see no major problems with it socially.
