We are sorted with our boys name but struggling a bit with a girls.
On the current shorlist is Sophie and Chloe which we both love but which we also know are quite popular at the moment.
Another one I thought of was Carla.

For info., our 'criteria' (due to our surname, family names, etc.) is:
Must be 2 syllables
Must not start with a vowel or end in a 'Y'

Any opinions on Carla and/or other names that match this criteria would be very much appreciated, thank you!! Smile

CLARA? it's up and coming, but if popularity doesn't bother you....

GwendolineMaryLacedwithBrandy · 31/12/2011 11:27

We were considering Carla for this one. I quite like Carly as a nn too.

3isamagicnumber · 31/12/2011 11:36

Carla, not Clara.

The only ones I know of are 0ne who is about 70 (?!), one I went to school with (so will now be about 30) and Carla off Coronation Street!!
So dont think it is popular for under 5's (10's? 20's?!) at the moment.

Like Carla and Carly also Clara, Laura, Lorna and Carrie Smile

PisteOff · 31/12/2011 11:50

I like it. I also like Stella, Marta, Margot.

annaballerina · 31/12/2011 11:53

3isamagicnumber - I offered CLARA above as an alternative to Carla...

that was your question wasn't it?!

oikopolis · 31/12/2011 16:01

Carla is stunning. It's recognizable, easy to spell and not so popular as to be tiresome.

It will be misspelt as the much more popular Clara at times though, so be prepared for that.

Sannebanana · 31/12/2011 17:13

Carla is lovely :) I really love Cara too, I'm considering it for my DD.

GlaikitFizzEggNog · 31/12/2011 17:16

My bff at school was/still is Karla. I think its a fab name. She gets kars as a nn.

mathanxiety · 31/12/2011 17:39

Carla reminds me always of the waitress from Cheers.

I prefer Carmen, or Clara.

cookielove · 31/12/2011 18:05

I know a Carly, the most annoying woman in theworld she's in her late 30's, to me it is of that generation.

i personally prefer sophie or chloe

I know a 3y/o Carla - her mum is Spanish so wanted a name that worked for both sides of the family (English/Spanish). Very pretty and easy to hear (if you get what I mean).

CecilyP · 01/01/2012 10:50

I think it is fine. I have a Dutch cousin called Carla who I am very fond of, so it has positive connotations for me. It is a good choice for the reasons oikopolis stated above.

journoem · 01/01/2012 10:53

I love Carla, it's such a pretty name and quite unique without being odd or something people will have trouble spelling.

3isamagicnumber · 01/01/2012 12:37

Sorry annaballerina, thought you were questioning Carla and thought it should have read Clara instead (think the emphasis with the capitals confused me!) Sorry!

Thanks for all the responses so far - a good positive reaction mostly! Smile

Keep them coming please, much appreciated!!

That was the name of my beautiful cousin who died in a motorcycle accident when she was 18.

I love the name Carly even more.
