Cassidy for a girl....

So I'm 20 weeks now and although we don't know for sure the sex of this LO something is telling me that it is going to be a girl (also we have the boys names already sorted!).
We have a short list of three at the moment to go with a surname beginning with a Cr. Please be honest and let me know what you think....
Cassidy
Cordelia
Harriet
If you can think of any others along the same lines is love to know! Thank you!

Love Cassidy, it's on our own list. We also considering Aurora, Flora and Aurelia.

MadameCastafiore · 28/12/2011 23:12

Harriet is cool (is DD's name) and so is Cordelia - Cassidy - in the name of god do not saddle a poor female child with that monica!

thenightsky · 28/12/2011 23:12

Awful.

Sorry.

But in my defence I am old enough to think of David Cassidy Blush

MarthasHarbour · 28/12/2011 23:13

I love Cassidy and for personal reasons have earmarked it as a middle name for a boy or girl if we have another LO. It is beautiful Smile

Hassled · 28/12/2011 23:14

It's a surname. Sorry, but it is.
Harriet is nice.

MarthasHarbour · 28/12/2011 23:14

Why madamec?

AnotherMincepie · 28/12/2011 23:27

Cassidy - Natalie Cassidy of Eastenders fame
Cordelia - umm, a bit posh for me
Harriet - like this best, nice, old-fashioned but a bit quirky, and it goes best with your surname too!

3isamagicnumber · 29/12/2011 10:41

Really dont like Cassidy, sorry.
Cordelia just makes me think King Lear which I studied at school.
Harriet is ok.

How about Octavia, Scarlett, Saffron, Coraline, Alexandria, Georgiana?

sassyTHEFIRST · 29/12/2011 10:43

Cassidy is grim, sorry. HOwever, I have a Cassie whose full name is Catherine (we didn't like Cassandra) - like this?

BastedTurkey · 29/12/2011 10:51

Surname IMO

Harriet much nicer

EdithWeston · 29/12/2011 10:55

Surname to the whole generation who remember The Partridge Family, so I think the assumption of a massive David crush is still be common. Are you ok with that?

lottiegb · 29/12/2011 11:00

I just think of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid! Cassie for Cassandra is lovely and I do like Cordelia (since the character in Buffy, bizzarely, not for her so much as it brought the name to my attention). There are lots of other lovely 'C' names and Harriet is nice too.

Fo0ffyShmo0ffer · 29/12/2011 11:09

Love Harriet or Cordelia.

No to Cassidy. Just no. Harsh sounding name.

Bunbaker · 29/12/2011 11:10

Butch Cassidy
Hopalong Cassidy
David Cassidy
Natalie Cassidy

It's a no from me as well.

I love Harriet and quite like Cordelia. Cassie is nice as well.

SoftSheen · 29/12/2011 11:19

Really don't like Cassidy, just doesn't sound like a proper name to me. However, Harriet is lovely and Cordelia is OK. How about Cassandra, or indeed just Cassie?

Ephiny · 29/12/2011 11:21

I quite like Cassidy, and Cassie is a nice nickname. I guess it is a bit surname-ish though.

Cordelia is lovely, I think this is my favourite. Not keen on Harriet, it sounds very old-fashioned and middle-aged to me.

PipaLockstocking · 29/12/2011 11:21

Is Cassidy really a first name?

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 29/12/2011 14:58

I really like Cassidy, and Cordelia my like inspired by American/Canadian tv programmes though! Just through hearing them used regularly.

yousankmybattleship · 29/12/2011 15:05

Sorry, Cassidy is terrible. I really don't like the American trend for using surnames as first names. Harriet is a beautiful name though in my opinion.

PipaLockstocking · 29/12/2011 15:10

Yep, Harriet is lovely. Cassidy is awful.

BunnyLebowski · 29/12/2011 15:14

I have a Cassie. I was mortified when a playgroup lady misheard me and called her Cassidy for an entire session.

It's the whole american trend for surnames as first names. Bad enough for boys (Hudson, Jackson, Hunter) but truly awful for girls (Harper, Madison, Mackenzie)

Cheap, tacky and trailer trashy.

Cassidy is awful. Cowboy-surname-slash-trailer-park-chic, to me.

Cordelia is gorgeously gorge. Nicknames: Cora, Delia, Coco, Lia... lots of choice for her, if she wants to try out a different identity when she becomes a teen :) but the full name is lovely enough that she could become PM/marry into royalty/get a damehood and it would sound natural with any title.

(Whereas Princess Cassidy sounds like a My Little Pony. Dame Cassidy sounds like a wild west madam. The Honourable Cassidy Smith sounds like a sheriff who got too big for his boots. Etc.)

Harriet is just as good, but Cordelia is lovelier to my ear.

inspireme · 29/12/2011 16:39

I know a little girl with this name but it's spelled Casidhe, took me ages to work out it was spelled phonetically and wasnt some obscure irish name.

I think it will date v quickly Harriet is a lot more timeless.
