Names for twins, one boy and one girl!

I'm currently 34 weeks with twins so getting a name sorted is of real importance now as realistically they could come at any time and, if not, I've got a cs booked for when I'm 36+4. Anyway I wanted some opinions on the shortlist of names DH and I have picked out. We already have a DS called Dexter and we want names that 'go' with that without sounding match-y. Here are some combinations we agree on!

Reginald Stuart (nn Reggie)
Rudy Lawrence
Lawrence Stuart (nn Larry)
Patrick Stuart

Aurora Gabrielle (nn Rori)
Flora Gabrielle
Aurelia Gabrielle (nn Rae)
Cassidy Gabrielle (nn Cassie)

As you can probably tell we like older names as well as ones with good nn potential - what arer your favourites and can you suggest any others (particularly girls!)

DH has just helpfully reminded me of the actor Patrick Stewart - I think that'll be Patrick Lawrence!

KenDoddsDadsDog · 28/12/2011 19:14

Patrick and Flora for me

exoticfruits · 28/12/2011 19:25

Flora Gabrielle and Patrick Stuart DO NOT inflict the rest on them- especially Reginald -Reggie (the poor child).

AnotherMincepie · 28/12/2011 19:37

Aurelia Gabrielle and Lawrence Stuart

ChocolatEtVin · 28/12/2011 21:41

Aurora was the name we had picked out if DS4 had been a girl so I think that's a lovely choice! As for boys I like Lawrence but prefer Laurie as a nn. Our DS was also very nearly Leonard nn Lenny - could that be an alternative?

AgathaPinchBottom · 28/12/2011 21:53

mybootsaremuddy · 30/12/2011 16:06

Another vote for Patrick and Flora. I like Monty as well.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/12/2011 16:42

Love Laurence for a boy but hate Larry.

Love Laurie.

Reginald and Rudy are both dreadful imho.

Love Cassie but hate Cassidy. How about Cassandra nn Cassie?

Like Flora and Gabrielle.
Aurelia Gabrielle is a real mouthful.

Italiangreyhound · 03/01/2012 01:52

Like Lawrence Stuart (nn Larry)

Really like Cassidy Gabrielle (nn Cassie)

Really like Gabrielle as a first name too, but with Elle as a nickname or El rather than Gabi (IMHO).

Congratulations.

I am a mum of girl/ boy twins (now 3 years old). 2 bits of advice:

  1. It is a lot easier to give them names starting with the same letter. It's just a lot easier to say it as you are constantly saying 2 names together! My dd's name begins with 'm' and ds2's begins with 'j', but they have nicknames which begin with the same letter. It's evolved that way because it's easier.
  2. DO NOT NAME YOUR CHILD FOR THE NICKNAME! I named my dd her name for the beautiful nickname and she's ended up something else completely (what her big bro called her when she was born and we told him her name). Ds2's (her twin) name is pretty random and really nothing to do with her name.

So just BEWARE less you end up with a 'Wiss' and a 'Woo' like me!!!
