Snap tummytickler!!! Gave my final daughter the name I think I love the most! Now trying to agree on a boy's name for ds1 with dh, urgh!!!!

I see it as a very obviously, very Christian name (nothing wrong with that, BTW): are you OK with that deemented?

Lovely - and the Christian thing wouldn't bother me at all (as an atheist). Many lovely names are very Christian / biblical.

I prefer Evangelina, though.

Angie or Gigi are good alternative nicknames.

Beautiful name with a beautiful meaning. It means "Good News" and can be shortened to Eva, Evie and Eve which are generally widely accepted.

Evangeline is my Name, my parents called me this so they were able to shorten it to Angel. Its always a great topic of conversation with people I meet!

I know an Evangeline who is known as Evie TBH I prefer Evangeline.

It's a lovely name, but it will date.

Evie is extraordinarily popular right now for some reason, which will mean the various lengthened versions of the name will suddenly go out of fashion at some point, rendering it a name pin-pointable to the late naughties/teenies.

I love it x from both house of elliott and nanny McPhee! It's an old name but i think sounds quite modern too. It will be shortened by some people but will give her choices later in life x

Evangeline is DDs middle name - love it! It would have been a contender for first name if it wasn't possible to shorten it to very similar to mine!

I am really surprised by the response that you are getting as personally I think it is a pretty awful name, perhaps mainly because in the books that Nanny McPhee was based on (Nurse Matilda, which I loved as a child) Evangeline wasn't an attractive character at all - she is described as "a stout little, horrid little prig". I guess it also brings Great Aunt Adelaide to my mind, as opposed to the rather nice children from Nanny McPhee.

Yes, but in the film Evangeline was a gentle-natured, sweet and pretty girl, who in the end had very good luck when she got to marry the lovely man. Evangeline is a gorgeous name and I even love it when shortened to Evie (but there are plenty of alternatives if you don't.)

Evangeline is a lovely name and the first one that came to mind was Evangeline Paterson with her beautiful poem "A wish for my children"
