Hi, we've come up with a shortlist but are struggling to find the perfect girl's name. we have two DS's called Noah James and Jacob Thomas and are looking for a girls name to fit in also one of our fave names is Poppy but not sure how this sounds with our surname which also begins with a P and has two syllables.

Shortlist so far

Poppy
Matilda (possibly Millie for short)
Millie
Violet
Annie

Any other suggestions welcome

Poppy - lovely but agree it may not go with your surname
Matilda - dislike
Millie - like as nickname for Amelia or Millicent
Violet - like
Annie - like as nickname for Anne, Annabel, Anneliese or similar

DaydreamingOfAWhiteXmasDolly · 22/12/2011 10:40

I love illiteration in names, so Poppy Pxxxx sounds sweet to me. As long as your surname isn't something like Pepper Xmas Grin
Matilda - Like, esp like nn Tilly
Violet - Like
Annie - really sweet, like it.

Poppy is cute.
It depends what you surname is imo, Poppy Prescott sounds fine, Poppy Potter is not so fine ...

I don't particularly like Mathilda

I don't particularly like Matilda and I dislike Violet (too close to violence!)
Millie is gorgeous, as is Annie.

Plonker · 22/12/2011 10:42

Sorry, not quite sure what I did there (stupid phone!)

MaggieAtwood · 22/12/2011 12:47

How about using Poppy as a nn for something else? Like Penelope or maybe Philippa.

jaffacakehips · 22/12/2011 13:05

Matilda (possibly Millie for short) not keen on Millie but that's just me!
Violet

Are the best imo!

But I think Poppy would work great with Noah and Jacob. What about Penelope aka Penny?

cece · 22/12/2011 13:08

Poppy - not sure about this, cute for a girl but not so keen for a woman
Matilda (possibly Millie for short) - OK
Millie - too cutsey for me
Violet - although I like old lady names, this one is a step too far for me
Annie - love it. Go for Annie Smile

scentednappyhag · 22/12/2011 13:20

Violet is beautiful Smile my favourite by miles of your list.

ggirl · 22/12/2011 13:24

go for the alliteration
will be a well remembered name

MamaLazarou · 22/12/2011 14:29

Poppy = Ploppy.

Violet is beautiful.

Rhubarbgarden · 22/12/2011 16:04

Violet and Annie are lovely. I don't like the others.

oikopolis · 22/12/2011 16:13

Poppy -- I like this. Would prefer it as a nn for Penelope though.
Matilda (possibly Millie for short) -- Like.
Millie -- nickname. Go with a full name on the birth cert, call her Millie.
Violet -- Lovely.
Annie -- Go with Anna, Anne or Annabel. Annie is a lovely nn.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 22/12/2011 17:44

Love Violet. Like Poppy. Hate Millie.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 22/12/2011 17:45

Agh - just read that your surname begins with 'P' - in that case, personally I wouldn't use Poppy.

3isamagicnumber · 22/12/2011 17:57

I wouldnt use Popppy if your surname begins with a 'P'.
Like Matilda best and think that goes with your DS's names.

nancerama · 22/12/2011 18:06

I love Poppy, in fact it was on our short list. I'm now really glad we had a boy as Poppy's are everywhere where we live (berkshire). There is even one in the next street with the same surname as us!

I think your other names are all really pretty.

OliNIvy · 22/12/2011 22:29

I love Annie.

The others are OK.

humblehippo · 23/12/2011 11:29

They are all nice enough but I would definitely pick Violet or Annie as they are a bit less popular and IMO have a bit more oomph and personality :o

stuffedauberginexmasdinner · 23/12/2011 11:49

Violet
