What do you think of James?

My DH and I are expecting a son in 2012

I am a firm believer in the "prime-minister" test for names... ie he needs a name that you can image as prime-minister or a lawyer or a doctor.

We are not fans of modern names/yoonique spellings or anything wacky.

Yes we are dull but we prefer to say 'traditional'! Don't really mind about popularity too much. Have veto'd jack because it is number 1 but otherwise we tend to think names are popular because they are nice.

Anyway the only name we seem to agree on is James.

Middles names we want to use exclusively family names that mean something.

So what we have to work with is

Douglas
Peter
John
Roy
Neil

Surname is Wilson

Current favourite is

James Peter Douglas Wilson

Peter and Douglas being the favourite family members!

What do you think? Does that flow OK, I've said it out loud so many times I cant really hear it anymore. Just want opinions on how that full name sounds to you?

I was going to say James Peter actually Grin

myalias · 21/12/2011 21:30

James Peter are perfect together

BuntyPenfold · 21/12/2011 21:31

Perfect

ChippingInLovesChristmasLights · 21/12/2011 21:34

It sounds like he'd be an older guy - probably in his 40's now. There's nothing wrong with it, it's just a little dated - I think it's the Douglas that really really does that, but as it's his second middle name it's hardly going to be mentioned is it. James Wilson is fine. Wont set the world on fire, but sounds pretty good for a PM Grin

ByTheSea · 21/12/2011 21:35

DD2 would have been James if a boy.

GeetTallBird · 21/12/2011 21:36

My DS is a James, lovely name :) for an equally lovely boy :)

MrsBradleyCooper · 21/12/2011 21:36

Lovely Smile

(can you guess what ds is called Grin )

cazboldy · 21/12/2011 21:39

I think your names are lovely Smile

My ds 1 is James - at the time, the only name we could agree on. And then we personalised it with family name for the middle name just like you.

Whatsinaname2011 · 21/12/2011 21:39

Wow great, thank you everyone! Douglas is my husband, do you think James Peter John Wilson goes better than Douglas? Glad that James has the thumbs up though!

Don't know if it is relevant for you but James Wilson is a long suffering character on the tv show House Wink

He is a rich and handsome doctor though (IMO) Grin

Is John Wilson not something to do with cigarettes of have I made that up? Anyway I like douglas better Grin

breatheslowly · 21/12/2011 21:50

Great names that will suit an adult as well as a baby/child.

dementedma · 21/12/2011 21:52

I wanted James for my first two but they were both girls, then my sis pinched it for her DS and to add insult to injury now calls him Jamie Confused Personally i would just go for one middle name, either James Peter, or James Douglas

Whatsinaname2011 · 21/12/2011 21:55

oooh one middle name! no couldn't do that, all my family has two and I think it "rounds off" the name better :) Don't worry we won't shorten to Jamie! ;)

I love James - it was our other choice for our DS. Didn't go for it though as I knew my in laws would call him Jim which I don't like. The only James I know is always a James.

cece · 21/12/2011 22:03

I like James a lot and the nn Jim or Jimmy

From you rlist I also like Douglas, John and Neil.

Liz79 · 21/12/2011 22:21

My beautiful boy is James Arthur. James cos we like it & Arthur as a family name. If you'd asked me before he was born I would have said I would NEVER call him Jim or jimmy Angry but actually he does get Jim quite often Blush, he's not 2 yet. I sometimes call him sonny Jim Blush cos he is my son Jim and he has always had a very sunny disposition, he smiles all the time Grin. As much as sonny Jim is minging & puke worthy it suits my smiley boy!

James Peter Douglas Wilson is a lovely name. All the best for your pregnancy & birth.

exoticfruits · 21/12/2011 22:23

Lovely name-they also go well together.

Chesticles · 21/12/2011 22:25

I have twin boys, James Alexander and Douglas John. I would have loved to have used Peter, but really couldn't with our surname. All I can say is you have great taste in names!

JennyPiccolo · 21/12/2011 22:32

And, he has always been James, I absolutely made sure that he was never called Jamie or any of the others.
