I am slightly put off by the meanings of some biblical names or rather the implications of them...my best childhood friend is Rebecca, and when we looked up our name meanings, hers meant 'bound' - implying servitude, humility, subjection, etc, and I've always found that rather depressing.
(I just searched for the name meaning on Google now, though, and it came up with a whole bunch of other meanings so perhaps you just have to pick the meaning you like... :) )
The same goes with Martha, although I think it's a very pretty name, but the character in the Bible is the one who does all the hard work in the kitchen and somehow implies being downtrodden and miserable.
For no particular reason I also feel the same about Abigail, which my OH likes - to me it just sounds like the name of a downtrodden medieval servant girl. The name actually means 'father's joy', though, so my interpretation is entirely my own invention, I think!
I must add that I don't have any religious convictions, so really the 'biblical' meanings oughtn't carry any weight with me, but I was brought up CofE and OH is lapsed Catholic, so the implications of biblical names still hang heavy on us - my instinct is to avoid them altogether tbh.
