Just seen this name on another thread and wondered how it was pronounced...? Shy- lo, sh-ill-oh or something completely different?

Shy-low

EdithWeston · 15/12/2011 19:43

I always assumed it was shile-o (which, depending on your surname, might spoonerise).

SantasNutellaFairy · 15/12/2011 19:44

Edith- you mean like the Jolie-Pitt family?Grin

Maybe - it depends on whether the Jolie part can be omitted.

SantasNutellaFairy · 15/12/2011 19:50

Poor kid. It MUST have been deliberate, either that or they're a bit thick, as everyone else in the world has noticed.

At the risk of sounding as think as the Jolie-pits.... I don't think I get it!? Blush

Shy-low Smile

JaneBirkin · 15/12/2011 20:34

Ok. If you reverse the initials, (spoonerism) you get Pile o'shit. (sorry)(but you did ask)

guinealady · 15/12/2011 20:39

I always thought it was Shee-lo. Had not thought of the spoonerism - and her middle name is Nouvel, like the well-known brand of loo roll...oh dear!

NotADudeExactly · 15/12/2011 20:39

I would have pronounced it SHY-lo as a name.

There is also, however, an Israeli settlement in the West Bank by that name. That's pronounced she-lo.

Clandy · 15/12/2011 21:25

Ah thank you Jane... And thank you for not mocking me too much! Grin I though a spoonerism was something else hence the confusion, any chance of blaming baby brain!?

Piloh Shit.Say no more.

JaneBirkin · 16/12/2011 10:51

I think it's a weird habit some of us have..I spoonerise nearly everything, at least in my head, I don't always share Xmas Grin

Always a good move when thinking of names for your children.

Clandy · 16/12/2011 19:34

I have sponnerised (if that is a word??) every name I know now thanks to you lot Grin
