Did you end up choosing a name for your DC you hadn't previously considered before they were born?

and why? And, were you happy with your last-minute change?

yes with ds2. when he was born neither of the couple of names we had "ready" seemed right... took us a week or so to pick a new one. it was just right!

Tonksforthememories · 14/12/2011 21:55

Yes.
Ds was supposed to be Jacob Anthony, but he really didn't look like one! After trying out a few names (Ethan, Fergus, Drew...) DH suggested Joel Dylan. I said we'd sleep on it, and it stuck!

DD1 we had a choice of 2 girl's names, DH chose hers.
DD2 we knew would be a girl and she was named before birth.

ImpOfThePerverse · 14/12/2011 21:57

Yes, although we never had any really serious contenders before they were born. We just couldn't manage to have a proper discussion about names until after they arrived.

After my dd was born, we realized none f the names we liked suited her. We finally named her Charlotte but it took a week ir do. I still love it.

lljkk · 15/12/2011 17:05

Yes, hmmm... happy? I dunno. I thought we had decided but DH suddenly declared "Over my dead body". So we took 2 weeks to come up with another name.

Flubba · 15/12/2011 17:10

Yes, with DD2 ~ because she didn't look like an Emily or a Charlotte when she came out, and I had been sure she was going to be a boy, so we didn't have any other girl names on our shortlist other than those.
No regrets (other than the fact her name now is close to a very popular one, and because I hadn't researched it, I didn't know how popular it is currently).

Yes with DS1 ~ because DH and I couldn't agree on how we would (or wouldn't!) shorten the name we'd chosen. So we went for something totally different. I love it, but do get a few Hmm looks from people of my parents' generation! :o :o

We had discussed a few options but were both happy to wait for the birth thinking that once we saw the baby we would instantly know what name to choose - but even after 4 days with our gorgeous ds we still had no idea what his name should be. Dh tentatively suggested 'Martin' and whilst i didn't love it, i didn't hate it either so we agreed we would try it out for a day and see how we felt then. Twenty four years later I still neither love nor hate the name - and it has actually suited him very well. Luckily ds has always liked his name.

mrsravelstein · 15/12/2011 17:28

yes. we named ds2, reluctantly, one of the ones from our list. it didn't suit him at all. we got 49 days and had to register him, so pretty much picked a name out of thin air in a panic. 4 years on it really suits him.

mandoo · 15/12/2011 17:31

Yes we were going for Henry but after three days of indecision we went for Max. It suits him much better. Am pregnant with DS2 who hopefully will be Harry as I really can't find any thing else i like.

cece · 15/12/2011 17:40

Yes with all 3.

DD we had a 99% certain name but she didn't look like a Helen when she came out so in the end she got one of the other names on the list - the one right at the bottom though, as it was the only one that suited her. For ages I thought we had made the wrong choice and regretted it as it was a bit out there and several prople were rude about it. However, it still suits her and I do like it. But I probably wouldn't use it if I had my time again.

DS1 - we had no boys name agreed on but somehow he was named whilst still in the labour room! It was a name neither of us loved but the only one we could agree on. I now love it and it does suit him. In fact he loves his name as it can be changed from very formal to very informal in it's different connotations.

DS2 - we had actually agreed on Edward if he was a boy. He did not look like one so was un named for about 5 days till finally the MW snapped and said you have to name him something! I've always liked x. x stuck! LOL I love it and it really suits him.

Only with DD. She just didn't look like a Sofia when she was born (and no, I have no idea what that should look like either Grin) We called her Baby Noname for most of the first day until DH came up with Lydia. Never considered it before but it fit her perfectly then and now.
