Is it a no-no??

Love the name, but feel it might be a bit mean.
Thoughts?

Shutupanddrive · 12/12/2011 17:14

Why is it mean? I like it Xmas Smile

belgo · 12/12/2011 17:14

What's the problem?

Trills · 12/12/2011 17:16

Better than calling her Holly but being born in May. Or May but born in December.

belgo · 12/12/2011 17:17

Holly is evergreen, it can be used throughout the year.

belgo · 12/12/2011 17:18

Agree about the month names though.

I know an August (boy) born in November.

AndiMac · 12/12/2011 17:18

I had a Holly in my class when I was growing up and never once associated her name with Christmas. Having said that, I would now never name a child something associated simply with the time of year they are born. But that's my choice; I do think it's a pretty name.

sunnysunchild · 12/12/2011 17:22

I just like the name. But wonder how associated Holly is with Christmas?
Would she get fed up with people linking her name with the festive season.
DC coming 30th Dec (Might be a DS!!)

I know a Holly born in September, seems a bit odd to me. To me it's a December name!

EsmeWeatherwax · 12/12/2011 17:28

I have a Holly born in April, people keep asking me if she was a Christmas baby...er, no, Easter actually, but I wasn't going to call her Egg.

It's a lovely name, no matter the time of year!

Nubbin · 12/12/2011 17:34

I have a Holly - birthday 14 December. She would have been a Charlotte but was 3.5 weeks late............

ICanTuckMyBoobsInMyPockets · 12/12/2011 17:36

Holly is a lovely name, as long as she won't have a sister called Ivy! x

sunnysunchild · 12/12/2011 17:40

Nubbin - Do people ask you if she was a Christmas baby?

AnotherMincepie · 12/12/2011 19:00

It's a lovely name, for a baby born any time of year.

humblehippo · 12/12/2011 20:32

I think Holly is a beautiful name and fine to use use at any time of year. I wouldn't worry about January anyway; that's still kind of the "Christmas season" if you think it has to be a name for Christmas only!

Redrubyblues · 12/12/2011 20:35

I was born on Christmas day and have a very un-christmassy name but I have a niece called Holly who was born in May.

I wish I was called Holly.

DriverDan · 12/12/2011 21:00

I have an August born Holly. I just love the name! But I am one of those people who would only use Holly outside of the Christmas season or month names outside of that month! In the stats it is the number 1 girls name given in December! She quite likes having a festive name in the run up to Christmas, although she is only 4, I wonder if it will be wearing thin in 10 or 20 more years Xmas Grin

HollyPockett · 12/12/2011 22:43

I'm a Holly born in September, never bothered me Grin

And to top it off, married last December and my new surname also has a Christmas connection, I quite like that I have a Bond girl-esque name Blush

HollyFP · 12/12/2011 22:50

I was born on 21st December Smile although my mum assured me when I was younger that it wasnt cos of being born at Christmas, they just liked the name.
I think it can be used all year round tbh. More so than names of months IMO

ChunkyMonkeyMother · 13/12/2011 09:57

My cousin is a Hollie and she's new years eve - nobody really thinks anything of it

TeacupTempest · 13/12/2011 10:42

I am due today and was thinking of the name Holly. Really like it but unfortunately DH's cousin is called Holly so decided against it.

agora1 · 13/12/2011 16:34

Just googled, neither Holly Valance or Holly Willoughby has a December birthday.

MarkStretch · 13/12/2011 16:36

I'm having a baby next Friday. if it's a girl we are going to call her Ivy. I don't feel mean about that!

Holly is a lovely name.

My brother's girlfriend is called April, and she was born in April funnily enough.

lynniep · 13/12/2011 16:38

My niece is Holly and is a Feb child. Never give it a thought that its a christmassy name
