Does she end up being inundated with 'Hello Kitty' themed cards, gifts etc each birthday?

DH and I both love the name and it's a family name, although we'd actually baptise her Kitty (only if a girl tho' Smile) rather than Catherine etc. I just wondered how much (if at all) the name's been eclipsed by the 'Hello Kitty' brand.

I think it would be pretty unavoidable, but on the bright side hello kitty is pretty "young" and she would outgrow it iykwim - I can't see it persisting after aged 10?

I have an aunt called Kitty and I'd never dare buy her a Hello Kitty card :o

I think that would probably happen, but does it really matter?

DD is only 9 months old, so no birthdays or Christmas presents yet, but I've made it very clear to anyone who is likely to buy her anything that Hello Kitty stuff would not be appreciated! (I'm not a fan of pink, girly crap, despite the fact I have pink hair).

I'm sure it'll backfire on me though, and I'll be surrounded by the bloody stuff as soon as she's old enough to choose for herself.

Mine has just turned 1 & didn't get any Hello Kitty stuff. My Mum bought 2 advent calendars for my girls this year, my 4 year old promptly swiped the Hello Kitty one & left Kitty with the Peppa Pig one!! Xmas Grin

My friend has a 2 year old Kitty and it has never occurred to me to go down that route! I think it'd be pretty naff if people did! It's a lovely, classic old name.

rubybambini · 07/12/2011 21:38

No. She's about eight months old now and has received one Hello Kitty themed item in that time: a soft toy. The only thing we really get is when people say, oh, what's her name? "Kitty." Oh, hello Kitty, OH! Hello Kitty?! And that's the end of that, really.

My Kitty is seven and Hello Kitty wasn't as big back then, so never occurred to us! She has had a few 'themed' birthday cards/presents, but she has as many again that are not. She is not that keen on Hello Kitty and most people know that.
I still think it's a lovely name and wouldn't let that cartoon cat put me of using it.

thanks very much for the advice, it is a lovely name and is very much still at the top of our list, it's more enduring than the cartoon. DD now says 'hello kitty' to my bump which is what got me started. She will be in for a surprise if it's a boy.
