Can I call DS Magnus if there's a fair chance he'll be a wee slender fella?

How much do people really pay attention to name meanings?

DH is shorter than average and very slim. Chances are future DS2 will be too.

Is Magnus too 'big' a name for a smaller boy / man? it means big, or great, apparently.

Of course, there's a chance he might take after me and be a bit more, erm hefty Grin

Magnus Magnusson was fairly slender, wasn't he? And I though it could mean "great" as well as simply big.

Of course you can! Lovely name Smile I am one of these people that is really interested in the meaning of names, loads of people aren't, but with Magnus I would think of it meaning great which is a very fitting meaning for one's own DS if you know what I mean?!

RillaBlythe · 02/12/2011 20:37

I love Magnus, didn't even occur to me about the meaning.

clamato · 02/12/2011 20:46

oh, splendid :)

I (stupidly) mentioned the idea to a somewhat opinionated relative and she commented "you better make sure he's a big lad, then"

yes she is an arsehat

Magnus is a fabulous name!

lollystix · 02/12/2011 22:07

Love it - such a strong name. I'd have a Magnus is I hadn't already got a Fergus.

emmyloo2 · 03/12/2011 02:42

Fabulous name and my name for DS2 if I ever have one. Absolutely use it!!

AnotherMincepie · 03/12/2011 08:53

Yes it's fine. Ignore the opinionated relative!

BuntyPenfold · 03/12/2011 09:58

I love Magnus and would absolutely use it.
He can be great in so many ways - great brain or great laugh :)

I have a lovely little baby Magnus, a fab strong royal name, Roman emperor and Strong name. Brother is Maximillian, am now stuck for another roman emperor/ Royal king starting with M as Marcus is already taken by nephew... any ideas?

LaTristesse · 16/12/2011 18:34

Agree it's a marvellous name, and would interpret the meaning as 'great' !
