Unusual name, but...

we are having out second boy at Easter this year, and my husband really likes names that mean something to us and give the boys something / someone to look up to. I'm all for a little bit of meaning! It took us quite a while to name our first son, so our thoughts have turned to names quite early.

My husband is really keen to name this one after my Dad - or rather, name him for my Dads Jewish (non-practising) name, which is Meyer. (pronounced May-or)

What do you think? We've got a relatively unusual surname that we have to spell all the time already.

I like the name, and like the thought behind it, but I'm not sure if it's too unusual!

There are a few Meyers around, but it's pretty exclusively Jewish or from the 50s. Meyer Lansky or Meyer Rothschild are ones that we know of.

Meyer Meyer came to mind for me too. I'm not particularly keen to be honest, although I do like Hector (we considered that for ds long age, dh is a Iliad fan).

I've not heard of Meyer Meyer - maybe I should read the Ed Bain novels befor he comes along! Another thing that struck me is Twilight author is surname Meyer, but hopefully we wouldn't be thought of as avid fans!

Also Meyer-naise as potential nickname!

I was just going to mention Meyer Meyer from Ed McBain's 7th precinct novels!

I like it a lot! The only downside I can see is the link to the girl's name Maya (although some would pronounce that My-a obv). there are loads of lovely unisex (similie) names though so I'd say go for it!

My Jewish Great-Grandpa was called Meyer and it is a middle name of loads of the boys in our family in honour of him. I love it and would use it in a shot but we are having a girl this time!

I like it, and I'm not usually a fan of unusual names.

Meyer is the sort of name that would fit in well in Oz, where you tend to get a few more of the US surname-type names, if that helps.

What about middle names? We dont normally do them (DH, DS and I dont actually have them), but was thinking that it may be an idea to give DS2 one just in case he grows up hating his name! My sister switched her names around when she was quite young, so thats where the idea came from really.

We have a double barrelled surname, which is why i've always thought it unnecessary. However...

surname is (L)three syllable-(P) 2 syllable.

DH thinks that if we're honouring the jewish side of my family, then should give a nod to his side as well and would like to go with a grand-dad on his side. One is out completely, but the other is Jonathan. But i'm not sure that works...

But then i'm not 100% convinced on the middle name thing anyway!

Help needed...
(PS. DS2 wont be named until he is born becasue i strongly believe in making sure the name fits!)
