Name inspiration for a classic, fairly timeless boy's name.

Expecting DC2, need inspiration for boy's names. We already have a Thomas. We like names that are classic, not bothered if they are popular but don't like faddy names.

If baby is a girl, we are thinking along the lines of Sophie, Charlotte, Alice - to give you more idea of our naming style.

However the real problem is we have an extended family full of boys - these are all names we would have considered but can't have: Joseph, William, Matthew, Benjamin, Oliver, George, Samuel.

Any ideas? We don't have a difficult surname so most things will go with it.

Oh and we can't have Robert either!

Pity you can't have Ben or Joe. i know quite a few Toms and Bens (siblings).

I second Edward - Ed, Eddie, Ted, Ned - it's a lovely name
or Charles/charlie
I also like Nicholas and Michael which are classic but much less common

What about
Gabriel
Lucas
Julian
Joshua
Jacob
Miles
Angus
Matthew

I really like Peter and feel it's underused. :)

Charles/Charlie also nice.

PercyFilth · 30/11/2011 12:17

But Peter means 'to fart' in French. That makes it a no from moi. Wink

AnotherMincepie · 10/12/2011 16:13

Why should it matter what it means in French?

FaverollesWithBoughsOfHolly · 10/12/2011 16:15

Pippa means blowjob in Greek, but it was still at the top of my girls list :)
Foreign meanings don't count!
