Are you looking for similar, like Alexa and Alice for example, same type of name like Elizabeth and Charlotte, or totally different, like Hermione and Chantel?

PrincessScrumpy · 25/11/2011 21:16

We have Heidi Matilda and Kitty Alice. Our other girl's name was Eliza. For boys we were going to go for Will and Finn. Congrats - twins are so much fun. Ours are 12weeks now.

Dora is a famous little Spanish explorer girl, so I would stay clear is that one in case it sticks in the playground.

I think with twin names it helps if the letters start consecutively in line with the alphabet. For example Olivia and Polly. Maybe I'm talking nonsense though.

Personally, I think it's important not to pick matchy names for twins, as it's all too easy for people to forget that they have individual personalities, and simply think of them as 'the twins.' If they have overly cutesy matching names, it makes this even more likely.

So maybe names that are similar in style, but not too similar, such as:

Emily and Catherine
William and Thomas
Ruby and Grace
Helen and Anna
Harry and Charlie (or Henry and Charles, but not Harry and Charles/Henry and Charlie)
Benjamin and Nicholas

catinboots · 26/11/2011 12:45

I agree with Pink ^

Similar style, but not matchy-matchy. It'a a bit too cutesy.

Ihavewelliesbutitssunny · 26/11/2011 16:50

Defo can't do Harry and Henry as the same name. Are you definately having identicals then? I think as Pink says its important not to give twins too similar names as you want them to develop their own personalites/identities esp for identicals.

scarletfingernail · 26/11/2011 18:19

Harry is a shortened version of Henry, so I'd steer clear of giving them the same name.

If the names are too similiar there's a chance that they'll become known as the twins rather than individuals. Could also get very confusing if they are the same sex with the same initials.

Some suggestions

Erin and Ava
Chloe and Emma
Lara and Rose
Phoebe and Kate

Henry and Charlie
Harry and George
Rueben and Theo
William and James

CarrieInAnotherTWOBabiTWINS · 26/11/2011 20:52

oh i wouldn't use heny an harry i was just saying that so you sort of got what i ment

I don't think it's any more important for twins names to match than it is for any other siblings names to match. My only thoughts would be to avoid the same initial if the twins are the same sex, just for the sake of less confusion with paperwork etc.

I also read the it can be a good idea if the twin that is born first gets the name lower down the alphabet. Eg first born is called Emily and the second Alice. That way the younger twin gets to come first sometimes. Probably only matters in really competitive twins but if you do have two of the same sex then it's as logical way to choose who gets which name as any other reason Grin

CarrieInAnotherTWOBabiTWINS · 26/11/2011 22:38

good point ginger Smile

Melissa and Miranda
Serena and Sophia
Catherine and Clara

Nicholas and Nathaniel
Gabriel and Gregory
Elliot and Edward

SlightlyDoolally · 27/11/2011 17:16

Heather and Erica for girl twins (Erica is the Latin name for the heather plant). So kind of goes together but not too obviously.

scarlettlips · 27/11/2011 18:47

Girl / Girl
Charlotte and Victoria
Jennifer and Catherine
Anna and Louise
Sarah and Emma

Boy / Boy
James and Arthur
Duncan and Charles
Lawrence and Christopher
Edward and William

Girl / Boy
Amy and Max
Alice and Freddie
Eliza and George
Grace and Ben

Personally i'd try and keep roughly the same amount of letters in each name, when learning to write, you don't want e.g. Amy to be able to spell her name and Lawrence still is learning. But that's just something a twin once told me..! I'd stay clear of Alice and Andrew or Ben and Betty as other poster have said, it's good for them to be individuals esp if there are the same sex!!

accidentprawn · 22/01/2012 09:03

i love being a twin. its the best thing in the world!
im freternal and we still get mixed up we look nothing like 1 another!

jellybeans · 22/01/2012 14:15

I have 9 year old boy twins and agree they are fab! So much fun! I was terrified as they were no 3&4 and we aready had a 2 yr old and 4 yr old when we found out! but it wasn't so bad, they were quite easy babies luckily (not like DC5!!) We chose simelar length names but different letters. I am not keen on same initial names as people still mix mine up even eithout that.

How about

Evan and Daniel
Nathan and Niall
Sam and Ben
Kai and Joel
Quentin and Peter
Zachary and Jacob (Zac and Jake)
Benjamin and Joseph
Ryan and Sean
Luke and Dean

Gabrielle and Josephine
Eva and Hope
Skye and Jasmine
Amy and Beth
Elsa and Freya
Joelle and Nicole
Sarah and Juila
Esther and Emma

Evan and Elizabeth
Rebekah and Louis
Sean and Rose
