Laurie for a girl?

its on our boys list and I like it so much I wonder if I could use it as a girls' name..? Short for Lauren I guess unless any other / better suggestions?

We are finding girls' names hard, we have two DSs already but finding boys a breeze in comparison. Here is our girl list so far, in no order and ready for any opinions and feedback you night have. Or other name suggestions even. Thank you!

Evelyn - have always loved (loved!) this but wonder if too many Evies where we live. Prefer Evelyn to Evie.
Elizabeth nn Bess or Beth
Darcey - DH not overly keen
Sadie - same initial as DS2, know that's a minor thing but when you've 3 it's helpful to be able to label stuff for them
Dulcie
Dilys
Camille - DH vetoed as 'too French'

You can be too French? Who knew! Thanks again for your time.

I like Lauren, Elizabeth/Bess and Sadie.

Evelyn nice too but yes, Evie/Ava/Eva names are very popular.

I love Sadie & the idea that this would include the new one in the initials the others have. As someone who grew up as the only outsider (Everyone else had the same starting letter. Parents too!) it felt like I wasn't included... Big thing to a small kid. Of course I got over it. But. Wondered why I was different. As a young kid I did think maybe the didn't like me, or if I was adopted that I would match with my "real" family.

Ooh my best friend is a girl called Laurie only instead of Laurie as in Hugh Laurie, it's Laurie as in the start of Laura with ie on the end, like Laur-ie....if that makes any sense at all Hmm

NeedHelpPlease · 23/11/2011 15:07

Yes I like Laurie for a girl very much.

I went to school with a Lorraine we called Lorry/Lori for short.

MelinaM · 23/11/2011 18:15

I really like LaurieSmile Lorelei perhaps?

MrsOzz · 23/11/2011 18:28

For some reason I think Laurie could be a nn for Aurielle/Auralia

I do love the name Lauren and Laura too.

blobtobetter · 23/11/2011 18:57

Laurie reminds me of Little Women!

What about Claudia? Beatrice, Tabitha, Pandora, Georgette, Marriane, Honoria, Tilly or Felicity.

Rhubarbgarden · 23/11/2011 19:02

I like Laurie.

I have a little boy called Laurie and have only ever met other boys with this name - especially recently! I think most people would see it as a unisex name but it appears more popular in America for girls. This could be because Laurie Lee is still associated with the name in the UK and he is male.

I would probably prefer Lauren or Laurel for a girl as they are 'prettier' and I love Camille from your list Smile

kindling · 23/11/2011 20:11

Laurie does make me think of the boy in Little Women, but it's still lovely for a girl. For the longer version prefer Laurel as imo prettier and classier than Lauren.

laura0007 · 23/11/2011 21:01

I've always like Laurie, but spelt Lori as the 'original' version is too close to my own name!

I have a lovely French friend called Laurence and she gets called Laurie by some of her English friends.

I find Laurence (emphasis on the ENCE) much nicer than Lauren personally.
