We like traditional but currently unusual names, and although my husband has veto-ed a few of the names below, I'm interested in what people think! Please don't be too mean though!! IF you have any other suggestions etc that's always handy!

We're youngish, hippyish but can't go too weird on the name......

Boys....
Benedict
Crispin
Damien
Grayson
Huw
Jeffrey
Jerry
Ralph
Robin

Girls....
Amber
Daisy
Flora
Hazel
Heidi
Idina
Ivory
Ivy
June
Lacey
Oriel
Poppy
Robyn
Sapphire
Sundae

In terms of middle names, we have one for a boy (Mathison, which is a family name), but not sure for a girl- could be a combination of the above. Surname is 2 syllables, starting with a D!

Tristan ... Or however you spell it Grin

Yup, that works with the Crispin-y type names! Not my favourites but my husbands faves!

Fab list!

Love Crispin, Damien, Ralph and Robin! Grayson is okay, but I much prefer Gray on it's own.

From your girls I love Hazel, Idina and Robyn, lovely!

Dirtydishesmakemesad · 23/11/2011 20:17

I love Robin/Robyn for boy or girl.

meditrina · 23/11/2011 20:23

Benedict - lovely
Crispin - OK
Damien - OK, but satanic!
Grayson - bit too surnamey/camp for me (Larry or Perry)
Huw - like
Jeffrey - don't like
Jerry - OK, but see it as a NN (Gerald or Jeremy)
Ralph - OK
Robin - OK

Amber - OK
Daisy - like
Flora - margarine
Hazel - witch
Heidi - OK
Idina - don't like, made me think iodine, or Edina
Ivory - don't like
Ivy - OK
June - OK
Lacey - OK
Oriel - not keen
Poppy - lovely
Robyn - like
Sapphire - OK
Sundae - random foodstuff

Please don't name your daughter after an ice cream dessert. And Lacey makes me think underwear. But your other girls names are lovely. Out of the boys names I like Huw and Benedict.

Sorry posting from my phone!

Thanks everyone! Interesting mix of opinions- I love Idina- after Idina Sackville who was a fascinating socialite back in the 1940s. I realty love Robin and Robyn too so that's good!

Jerry is one of my gave boys names.but not even my OH likes.it! D'oh!

Boys:
I like Benedict (but may end up as Ben, which is a little dull imo), Crispin, Damien, Huw, Jeffrey, Ralph and Robin. Or how about Quentin or Dominic?

Girls:
I like Flora, Idina, Robyn and Ivy. Or how about Skye?

CEDR · 27/11/2011 15:09

You're right about Benedict/Ben. I'd probably go for Benny instead as an abbreviation. Huw is a bit Welsh and we're not but I do like it.... though Ralph and Robin are front runners for a boy!

Skye makes a nice middle name I think- might be a bit far out for our family to get to grips with!

meditrina I like Poppy but I work in schools and there's a LOT of them about at the moment.
