We like traditional but currently unusual names, and although my husband has veto-ed a few of the names below, I'm interested in what people think! Please don't be too mean though!! We're youngish, hippyish but can't go too weird on the name......

Boys.... Girls.....
Benedict Amber
Crispin Daisy
Damien Flora
Grayson Hazel
Huw Heidi
Jeffrey Idina
Jerry Ivory
Ralph Ivy
Robin June
Lacey
Oriel
Poppy
Robyn
Sapphire
Sundae

In terms of middle names, we have one for a boy (Mathison, which is a family name), but not sure for a girl- could be a combination of the above. Surname is 2 syllables, starting with a D!

Benedict - love
Amber - wouldn't say it's unusual
Crispin - love
Daisy - again not unusual
Damien - mmmmm, I'm skewed by the fact that I have at least 5 Damiens in my classes (am in France though) and they're all 'orrible
Flora - again not particularly unusual
Grayson - not my cup of tea
Hazel - love it
Huw - another stunning choice, you're doing well on boys so far for me
Heidi - not with a D surname
Jeffrey - like but don't love, fits your traditional but unusual though
Idina - again not with your surname
Jerry - doesn't seem like a real, solid name next to your other choices. Would go for it as a nickname for Jerome
Ivory - also not my cup of tea
Ralph - brings up images of a skinny man with a huge moustache, can't imagine a little boy
Ivy - love it but perilously close to becoming popular
Robin - love but ditto Ivy, I know quite a few little Robins
June - not so keen
Lacey - unusual, I think it would grow on me
Oriel - window
Poppy - really popular
Robyn - nice and I ony 'know' one, on my PN thread
Sapphire _ a bit too hippy for me
Sundae - just don't

I like Benedict, Amber, Daisy, Ivy, June, Poppy and Sapphire.

None of your girl names are that unusual I don't think, and only the last few boys names are I would say.

LaTristesse · 26/11/2011 16:50

My faves are Flora and Poppy although I wouldn't consider either unusual. not keen on your boys names I'm afraid but I'm notoriously hard to please when it comes to boys names... Just a note of caution about Lacey; it's becoming very popular with the 'mainstream' Eastenders viewers around my way... You might want to avoid as you say you're a bit hippyish! Good luck...
