Due in one week and have no names!!

DC3 is due in one week and we have absolutely no idea as to what to call them! We already have a Jeremiah Henry (Jem) and a Saskia Austen. With both of them the names they were given we had loved since we found out the sex. This time round we didn't find out the sex and are really struggling to come up with a name. Most of the names that I love DH has branded as pretentious whilst not coming up with any alternatives! I'll put a list underneath of names that I really love (and that have not been completely vetoed by DH) but, as well as opinions on those, I would also love some other suggestions. Thanks if you've read this far!

Girls
Honor
Philippa (Pip)
Ellen
Ivy
Claudia
Elsa
Paloma

Boys (much longer!)
Corin
Cassius
Bay
Finton
Arlo
Bruno
Ivan
Felix
Silas
Myles

I think your shortlists are all lovely names....i particuarly love ellen and elsa (but that might be becuase i know a three year old elsa who is adorable). For the boys i like Cassius and Bruno the best. Is the middle name literary associations with the first two deliberate? might that help you narrow down a middle name for this one if you are going to continue the tradition??

From your list I would pick Philipa Ivy and Felix Myles as first choices.
Second would be Elsa followed by something short like Rose and for a boy Finton (Fin) Silas.
For something not from your list Imogen Poppy and Rufus Jethro

pranma · 19/11/2011 20:57

I like all the girls' names except Paloma which to me is a gas boiler!
Boys-I like Felix Bruno and Finton best

yosammitysam · 19/11/2011 21:07

love Philippa, love Arlo.
Some names I also love (that may go well with your other dc's):

Boys:
Maxim
Maximilian
Benedict
Gideon
Mateus

Girls:
Penelope
Beatrix
Mathilde

I think they are all quite unusual names, but most can easily be 'converted' into more regular versions if your dc doesn't want to stand out from the crowd when they are older- my best friend at school had a v unusual name and she hated it but it couldn't be abbreviated or anything. e.g. Mathilde-Tilly etc. I think it's really nice to have a flexible name. We always had a long ish short list and picked a definite when the baby was born and we kind of knew as soon as we saw them. Good luck!

From your list I quite like Pip, Claudia and Elsa, and from your boys I like Felix.

How about
Fergus
Otto
Atticus or
Torren for a boy?

And
Annie
Anya
Bess or
Eliza for a girl?

Good luck! Smile

I like Phillipa and Claudia, Felix and Myles.

ViviPru · 20/11/2011 14:17

Well thanks all for the positive reaction to my RL name Blush Grin

OP FWIW, going through life named "Philippa" has been great, I really like having a different version of a name to use in different circs, i.e. professionally, I'm Philippa, while those I'm close to tend to use Pip, I'm Aunty Pip-Pip or Pippi to DNs and GodDCs. As A kid I was always 'Pippa' but I like that least now and don't tend to use it much, but don't mind if others do.

I like that its uncommon, but not unusual. And its only a minor frustration to have to correct people that its one L three Ps.

So no prizes for guessing what gets my vote on your list. I love Bay and Silas for boys. Gosh Silas has had a few mentions round here lately

NewsClippings · 20/11/2011 16:29

Jeremiah Henry, Saskia Austen and...

Ivy Paloma
Philippa Ivy

Felix Myles
Arlo Cassius
Silas Corin

veggieburger · 20/11/2011 17:48

DD1 would've been Corin and DD3 would've been Cassius so they're my choice from your list!

Your girls' choices are lovely too.
