Florence and Edward. Don't like Romilly.

UrsulaBuffay · 18/11/2011 20:48

I have a Phoebe and think Thea goes perfectly!

I like Freddie and I like Edmund actually.

Hmm. Yes, am undecided on the Phoebe/Thea combination.

None of the boys names grabbing me particularly. I like James but dh doesn't (and it's very 'safe')

These names are all fine. The two main things to think of with names are

  1. That your baby will be a baby for a year and a cute little person for about another six. They will be an adult for about 70 years, so give them a grown up name!

I personally hate nick names such as Freddie, being given as a first name. Call
him Frederick, and he can be Freddie for short. What will he feel when he is a Nobel prize winner, and his name is Freddie?

And 2. They won't want to have the same name as everybody else. I was once in a class with six girls all sharing variations of the same name. I was one of them.

So try to be a bit more imaginative than James or Edward, and avoid celebrity names like the plague. My aunt called my cousin Dean after Dean Martin, thinking it was so unusual......

I love Thea and Clara. Simple, pretty, classy names.
Romilly is a bit frilly for my tastes.
Florence is lovely but very popular in my neck of the woods - don't know if that puts you off?

I'm not a big fan of Edward I'm afraid. I just don't like the nicknames - Ed/Eddy, Ted/Teddy etc. If you like quite classic, traditional names I'd suggest:

Sebastian
Michael
Laurence/Laurie
Arthur
William
Joseph
Daniel
Gabriel
Oliver
Henry

Phoebe is lovely, btw Smile

NewsClippings · 18/11/2011 22:53

Clara or Florence for a girl, and Edward is a very good classic name for a boy.

Nameschangedtoprotectidentity · 18/11/2011 23:35

Going off romilly now- just as i'd talked dh into it!

Some good boys names above. I like Sebastian, laurence and Gabriel and love Rowan but unfortunately it doesn't work with our surname at all!

Juliet or Max

whatever117 · 19/11/2011 00:34

Felicity, Verity

Nameschangedtoprotectidentity · 19/11/2011 08:53

I like Max but prefer 2+ syllables

I like Clara and Thea, but take your point about Phoebe/Thea. Also like Meredith, Meryl, Corinna and Tamsin.

Another vote for Laurence, also
Marcus
Adam
Arlo
