Having 5th child but me and DH cannot agree on names we like!

Struggling with names seriously and my sister suggested the power of Mumsnet!

Currently pregnant with child no. 5 but not going to find out sex, problem is (and we now know the reason why people don't have lots of kids!) we can agree on no more names that we like!

Our children are:
Ralph Mark Ernest
Cassandra Emily Dorothy
Wilfred Peter Arthur
Hester Elizabeth Virginia

We would quite like a name that fits in with our slightly odd tastes! Nothing too common but nothing overly unusual (i.e most people can spell, will be suitable at all ages). We also tried to give our children a plainer middle name just in case they hate their first names! Any ideas at all? All welcomed!!

Thank you :)

Girls: , Verity, Agnes, Olive, Jemima
Middle names: Alice, Rebecca, Catherine, Jessica

Boys: Edmund, Harold, Winston
Middle names: James, Paul

I really like Verity! But asked the Man and he said no :( He refused Hester though until right after the birth when I pulled the classic "I've just given birth to your baby, I'm going to choose the name" card.

Forgot to say we have a long double barreled surname (blame the Man's great grandparents) so some names sound silly with it and it really rules out anything starting with D. (Should rule out anything starting with W as well but I loved Wilfred so much that I refused to give it up! And anyways he has a fantastic name if he ever wants to be an actor/something interesting!)

Loved Edmund but really too near to the Man's name and we've tried to avoid a duplication of initials because my brother's initial is the same as my Dad's and it caused major problems when we were all living at home!

Quentin - derived from Latin meaning fifth.

I love your other kids' names.

NewsClippings · 19/11/2011 08:38

Annabel Delilah Juliet
Victoria Beatrice Emmeline

Jerome Lawrence Henry
Maximilian Charles Frederick

bagelmonkey · 19/11/2011 09:40

Honor for a girl?

yumminessmumminess · 19/11/2011 09:51

Quentin is rather nice! Would love Quinn as a nickname but is it too girly?

I love Emmeline and Juliet, love Beatrice too but it is my niece's name!

Frederick is lovely too but Wilfred goes by Freddie a lot of the time so I think they're too close!

Any more ideas? Trying to get a long list together before our 20 week scan next week - seriously considering finding out the sex because I want to get everything ready before the baby comes this time as my due date is the same month as my youngest is starting school and is the month before my eldest starts his A2 exams and my second eldest starts her GCSEs. Am I in fact crazy?

I love Hester for a girl - would have been one of my choices if we ever had a dd.

For boys how about inigo, Seth, jethro, ptolomy (I love this name but dh has vetoed it for ds1 and 2, not even as a middle name) or atticus (friend has recently used this and I think it's great plus pretty unusual over here). Benedict could be a good middle name - bit different but shortens to something simple and plain.

For a girl how about venetia. Not got many other girl ideas sorry.

Oooh love Benedict! My grandfather was called Benjamin so would be quite nice to have something similar I think :)

Love Theodore, Phineas and Atticus as well.

Juliet is really growing on me and I've always loved Florence but it seems there are thousands round here at the moment.

Think our long list at the moment is:
Boys
Benedict
Theodore
Phineas
Atticus
Quentin

Girls
Juliet
Emmeline

Really struggling on Girls names at the moment which is odd because I found it really easy to name our DDs!

Simeon

mopsyflopsy · 19/11/2011 17:28

I love Quentin (esp for a fifth child!) but am biased as we have one Smile. He sometimes gets called Quinn, so to me its not girly at all.

I also like Benedict (although he would probably end up as Ben) and Atticus very much. Theodore is nice too but there are a lot of little Theos around.

For girls, I really like Emmeline. How about Aurelia, Florence or Mabel?

Ihavewelliesbutitssunny · 19/11/2011 17:35

Fabian
Bruno

Miranda
Petra
Genevieve

rachel234 · 19/11/2011 17:36

Boys:
Benedict - nice but Ben perhaps a little dull
Theodore - again, nice but not a fan of Theo
Phineas - lovely (although would you shorten to Phin or Fin?)
Atticus - lovely
Quentin - lovely (Quinn is a nice alternative to Finn imo)

Girls
Juliet - ok, but not that feminine imo
Emmeline - lovely

evamummy · 19/11/2011 17:41

I agree - Quentin would be great given that it's your fifth child!
I also like Benedict, or how about Felix?

Juliet is lovely imo.

I have a real soft spot for Roland because of Stephen King's Dark Tower books - but dp always does that terrible accent re the Ro-LAND in Grange Hill!

yumminessmumminess · 19/11/2011 17:59

Oh wow, only went out to the shops and got all these lovely name suggestions!

Really like:
Liberty

Marianne
Georgiana

I never realised how many pretty names there were! Wish I'd known about Mumsnet when all the other DC were born!
