Fingers crossed it's a boy then...

I love the name we've picked out for DC2 if it's a boy.

But I just don't feel the same about the girl's name we've chosen. We just don't have that same "love it" reaction.

I have my 20 week scan on Monday and I'm actually panicking about what if the baby is a girl (of all ridiculous things). We've been through so many names and we only have one we even like, but I want to love it. I keep imaging having the baby and it's always a DS2 because we love the name so much I'm desperate to use it.

Did anyone else have one name they loved and one they only liked? How did it work out in the end?

Had a girl's name I loved and had 2 boys! However, have come to love their names of course. Hope all goes well on Monday.

Thanks BlueChampagne. I'm sure we will love it if we have to use it, because it will be her name, but the anticipation is awful :(

Each time I had my DC(7) i had a name I loved. In two cases, I was torn between two. The only things I struggled with was spellings and surnames. I would keep going till you find one you really really like. There are names I have loved in the past but never used (opp gender) and I have gone off some of them or used them for later babies.

I get that jellybeans - we had a girls name we loved when I was expecting DS1; but now we just don't like it as much, it's such a shame.

If it is a girl I think I'll drag the book out again and see if we can find something better. Or maybe we'll love the name by the time she comes...

Really? We didn't even start thinking of names until we found out the gender at the 20 week scan.

ImpYCelyn · 18/11/2011 18:46

Yes. DS was named right from the very off because we found a name we loved when I was about 10 weeks pregnant (and a girls name we loved that time). And DH suggested a boy's name this time that we adore, so it'll definitely be that if it's a boy.

But so far we haven't found a girls name we love, only like, and I feel bad about it. We've been through two books, I've read loads of name threads on here and looked elsewhere online and nothing really appeals to us.

I did say I know it's ridiculous...

Could you use them for a girl? I once met someone who had an aunt Paul and and aunt Edward - because the parents wanted boys and had boys names but no girls names so used the boys names regardless!

ImpYCelyn · 18/11/2011 19:01

Well it's a French name, so a bit frillier than the average boy's name... but no, I don't think I could bear inflicting a girl with a boy's name, I'd feel so guilty.

I think I just need to suck it up and learn to love it, or find something better.

DS (DC1) - Love his name, had always wanted a boy (since teenage) so I could use it.
DD (DC2) - One of only a few (2) names we agreed on. Don't love it, but don't hate it. DD is a month old today, and it is now her name regardless.

How did your scan go? :)

ImpYCelyn · 22/11/2011 16:04

Well thanks. Baby all fine and growing well :o

The sonographer said she's 90% sure it's a boy. So we've decided to presume it probably is, but are prepared for the 1 in 10 girl that may arrive Wink

I decided on Saturday (after a mind-focusing trip to maternity triage) that I do really like our girl's choice anyway, so we're prepared for whichever :)

Thanks for asking :)

Aww am glad your scan went well! We had exactly the same problem - we picked what we thought was a fab boys name - very family based and traditional - and a bit of an airy fairy girls name that neither of us liked much, we didn't find out what we were having but, like you, I was relieved when I had DS and could use our beautiful name - so glad we didn't use the girls name as it is so so common, I mean our ds has a common name but unusual middle name, the girls name was alllllll common ha ha 3 of them in one class at nursery first andd middle name!

I'm glad your scan went well :)

It is amazing how focussing a trip to MT can be isn't it!! I hope the rest of your pregnancy is uneventful!! :)

ImpYCelyn · 22/11/2011 19:13

Glad you got to use your favourite name Chunky :)

Thanks Chipping, fingers crossed :)
