Oops - haven't thought of girl names!

We were so worried about not liking any boy names, that we haven't given girl names much thought. All the names I put below are names we kind of like.

Our name preferences seem to be traditional, preferably not top 75, but we seem to like very otm names (not on purpose!)

We have Rufus and Betty (Beatrice)

For a boy, we like:
Albert Benjamin C (common, single syllable surname)
Stanley Benjamin C

Girl:
Tabitha
Hermione (Minnie)
Stella
Angelica (Annie or Jelly)

Any suggestions for either sex?

Albert is sweet (with bertie as shortening)

I love Beatrice with Betty for short.
I do like Hermione but I imagine there are lots due to HP.

EdithWeston · 15/11/2011 23:17

I think Tabitha and Hermione are wonderful. Angelica is a bit frilly for me (sorry), and I'd be very cautious about Stella because of the lager (which is nicknamed "wife beater").

How about: Artemis, Ariadne, Marianne, Jemima?

Towndon · 15/11/2011 23:30

Albert Benjamin for a boy, Stella Hermione for a girl.

Wouldn't suggest Tabitha if you already have a Rufus (some people will comment that you've got both a dog's name and a cat's name there).

Hermione is nice but having seen previous threads on the name Minnie you might want to reconsider the nickname.

Stella is nice, very pretty :) Also like Estella and Estelle.

Angelica is lovely too, with Annie as nickname (Jelly is just too daft, sorry!)

MrsBradleyJames · 15/11/2011 23:38

I think Stella is a perfect 'match' to your other two kids - Rufus, Betty and Stella - all stylish names in a similar way I think......Stella is a cool name but pretty too.

Not keen on Stanley, I can see the kind of 'retro cool' that name is trying to conjure but it just doesn't do it for me!
Albert is nicer, and Bertie for short is just very cute Smile
How about Guy? Hugh? Hugo? Leo? Leon?

phlossie · 16/11/2011 09:38

Thanks everyone.

Albert would have to be Albie as a nn because we can't really have Betty and Bertie!

Interesting that you seem to like Stella best. I agree about Hermione - it's DH's favourite - my favourite so far is Tabitha I think. I had thought of the cat and dog thing, but I don't mind about that!

I really like Artemis, edith. I also love Jemima, but it's my sister's name.

What's wrong with Minnie Towndon? Just out of interest. Is it what people call their girl bits?! That's why it's so good to test names out here!

A girl would have the mn Elizabeth, Mary or Kathryn (family names).

Please keep the suggestions coming!

Minnie is indeed a euphemism for girl bits. Steer clear.

My only ? with Albert would be that as you say it can be abbreviated to Bertie and you already have a Betty but doesn't really matter. Albie is really cute.

I LOVE Tabitha. Stella, I can't explain why but I find a bit austere.

What about Josephine? Sephie for short. Love it but probably won't ever get to use it.

Um...

Dorothea
Aphra
Mirabel
Genevieve

Hector
Hamish
Amos
Wilf
Cosmo
Caspar

phlossie · 16/11/2011 09:48

Ooh, Hamish! I like! My Cosmo campaign is still failing with DH - I mention it every couple of weeks!

Josephine is my mn. I like Sephie as a nn - the nn Josie had put me off.

I do know what you mean about Stella - I wondered if it was a bit pointy. It does mean star!

Weird because I like Estelle. Softer somehow. Or Seren, v pretty.

I love Josephine but not Josie. Just had a ds and he would have been Josephine (sephie or phin for short). But Raphael suits him better. Grin

BlueChampagne · 16/11/2011 13:34

I like Stella; also Helena, Meredith, Meryl, Tamsin and Corinna.

GraciousLife · 16/11/2011 14:00

Stanley and Tabitha

mathanxiety · 16/11/2011 19:26

Lovely names all, so no help here. Maybe Stella edges the others, but by just a nose.

reallacecurtains · 18/11/2011 11:12

I like Angelica the best. Doesn't Sam Taylor-Wood have a dd by the name?
Tabitha used to be my fave name but is now too pop.

Good luck!
