DC2 due next week. We already have DD (Charlotte) and expecting a boy this time.

We are struggling with names we like/agree on. John would be middle name after my late dad.
Currently luke warm on:

Matthew
Daniel
Nathan
Thomas (DP worries name will be Thomas John...)
Henry (I like, DP not keen)

Surname is unusual and beings with S and rhymes with hake.

All very widely used already - personally I find them a little dull. But if I had to choose, then Henry or Nathan. I'd avoid Thomas John Grin.

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 10/11/2011 11:24

I know, they are all a bit mainstream. Problem is, I can't think of any nice boys name that are not mainstream but also not too off the wall. I do like traditional names but unlike girls, there doesn't seem to be much we can come up with. If it was a girl, we'd already chosen Lily and both loved it.

I'd be up for any suggestions anyone has for a boys name.

We both dislike Joshua, Isaac, Oliver, Joseph.

Edwin
William

Or maybe celtic/welsh versions of classic names?

comedaygoday · 10/11/2011 11:56

They are all good strong names. I like them all. I would avoid Thomas for the reasons you have given and would also avoid Henry as Harry is very common and your Henry might be shortened to Harry. I would probably.use Matthew as this is a lovely name which is not used a.lot.at the moment.

Have you considered Edward? Edmund? George? Gregory or Arthur?

mayanna123 · 10/11/2011 11:58

Edwin is lovely. I'd avoid William because the one I know gets teased with Willy a lot. How about Dominic, Gregory, Quentin, Theodore, Nicholas?

Harrison
Aaron
Peter
Zachary
Gabriel
Michael
Adam

Laurence

mayanna123 · 10/11/2011 15:15

Laurence is the female version of Laurent, just like Florence is the girls version of Florent. For a boy I'd use Lawrence.

CharlieBoo · 10/11/2011 16:24

I love Henry... What about Harry? Jacob? George? Samuel?

SardineJam · 10/11/2011 19:24

What about Christopher, that goes nicely with Charlotte

rainbow2000 · 11/11/2011 10:12

Nathaniel good strong name and not used to much.

Lollyheart · 11/11/2011 10:19

Your due next week Shock wow that's gone quick.
I like Matthew and Henry from your list.

Ebb · 11/11/2011 10:32

I like Matthew and Henry from your list.

Or maybe Edward? Freddie? Benedict? Rueben?

pilates · 11/11/2011 11:25

Henry John - lovely.

3isamagicnumber · 11/11/2011 14:03

Charlotte and Matthew go the best together in my opinion though my fav name is Nathan.

Or how about Benjamin, Edward or Jacob?

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 11/11/2011 14:45

Thanks all for the suggestions. I think my favourite is Matthew, although I do like some of the others but DP likes Nathan. Nathaniel is good too.

I think we are going to wait and see what he looks like when he arrives but I think it'll be Matthew or Nathan.
