Bess - love
Violet - love
Maggie - like
Martha - like
Elsie - not too keen but its not horrid
Grace - I know a few so can't be unbiased
Ellie - as above
Betsey - not too keen but don't hate

in all I would say that's a pretty fab list of names there and nothing for anyone to actively dislike in any choice xxx

ah thanks both - my favourite at the moment is Maggie - but not sure of a middle name.. would Maggie Elizabeth work? Our surname is that of a well known vacuum cleaner...!

I have a Bess!

Really like most of your names tbh, which probably isn't much help! Martha & Violet are my faves (apart from Bess of course!)

faverolles · 09/11/2011 21:46

I love Maggie!
I have a Maggie, it's lovely that you don't really meet others.
The only downside (and it's very slight and has never really bothered me) is that older relatives seemed quite put out that she was called Maggie and not Margaret.

Maggie Violet?

BirdoftheNorth - Bess is gorgeous. There is a problem with us using it though and that is that my sister is called Beth - i hate to say i think it is too close. Such a gently feminine yet strong and independent name.. your DD is very lucky to have it.

Faverolles - Absolutely for me it would be Maggie and not Margaret - Margaret is too old lady but Maggie is cheeky, fun and bright i think, i love it. Do you mind me asking what your DD's middlename is?

Bess - lovely as nickname but too close to Beth
Violet - lovely
Maggie - a bit harsh and reminds me of Margaret Thatcher
Martha - dull
Elsie - pretty, nice as nickname for Elisabeth or Elspeth
Grace - lovely
Ellie - so-so, a bit nothingy but OK as nickname
Betsy - too itsy-bitsy sounding

Wormshuffler · 10/11/2011 07:40

Has violet gone popular? I thought I was being unique wanting to call this one Violet if it is a girl. I also love Martha and Bess (ie)
