I was convinced that I was having a girl but just discovered it's going to be a boy which leaves me in complete confusion. I have a long list but none strike me as wonderful. My fave was Rafferty but DH has said absolute no to that... He is gunning for Theo but I'm not convinced..
Here is my list - can you suggest any more (similar) names?
Inigo
Johnny
Jonty
Ludo
Finn
Otto
Wilf
Wilbur
Louis
Oliver
Tobin
Nico
George
Rollo
Rufus
Theo
Felix

I've seen so many people askignfor opinions about Tobin, I never realised it was an actual name. But no, exclude that one now, what with the serial killer association. Rollo is a cartoon king. Wilbur is a teddy bear. Inigo, well, have you ever seen the Princess Bride? Ludo is the big hairy creature in Labyrinth.
But congratulations :)

I love Inigo, Rollo, Rafferty, Nico and Ludo. Or how about Quentin, Monty, Eric or Dominic?

Inigo and Johnny are my favourites - lovely, classic but not overused.

Some of your suggestions (e.g. Theo, Finn, Oliver) are already VERY widely used - not sure if that bothers you, but it would me.

Right, the way I see it is that there are classic names - you know the timeless ones that are never 'in' but never go away either - Thomas, Henry, George, William, Luke etc. There are the names that are very 'in' at the moment - Theo, Finn, Louis, Oliver etc. and names which are getting more popular - Rufus (my ds's name, I LOVE it'), Felix etc. And names which are completely unusual because they're either unusual names or they're not fashionable - Norman, Colin, Trevor etc.

I think you need to decide how unusual you want vs how popular. This helps with popularity.

My criteria is names that either out of the top 100 or in the last 75 at least. We have a Rufus and this next baby will be Albert or Stanley. I also love Inigo, Otto, Rollo and Felix from your list. And I love Ezra.

Quentin! Brilliant suggestion.
Or:

William
Rupert
Nicholas
Ralph (pron. Rafe)

MamaLazarou · 09/11/2011 13:38

Ludo is brilliant! Call him Ludo.

Love Ludovic nn. Ludo!

How about Otis, Victor or Marcus?

After 4 dds, I am in a similar position. We liked Cassius for dd3 (she's a Pearl) but dh has gone off that. He kinda likes Kit, I like Ned and Cassian. Stupidly he also likes Kelly, and his (and the kids) surname rhymes with that, and also the word Smelly (I can hear the taunts in the playground already!). Dd1 wants to call her brother Stencil, I don't know how we will agree in the next couple of months! Will watch this thread with interest....
