TTC Possible baby name combos - what do you think?

Hello
DH and myself are currently TTC baby no2. We have a few ideas about names but people tend to turn their nose up - I think they are fairly safe names but I would love peoples' opinions on them.

Girl

Liv Valentine

Boy

Rudy James or Rudy George

DD1 is named Ava Isabella - which wasn't too common when she was born - but both names are popping up everywhere!

What do you think of the combinations? I really like Valentine as a middle name but I have no specific link to it (it's not a family name or anything). Suggestions would be very welcome!

Thanks

I would use Olivia as a full name but Liv is a cute everyday nickname. Valtentine is a boy's name, but Olivia Valentina is lovely IMO.

For me Valentine is a boys name and Valentina is the femal version. though according to the net Valentine is used for girls in France - so I suppose it is fine.
Liv I like - I like short names but people will say 'ohh are you actualy a....' If you can put up with that and think they can then go for it. (I have that all the time at school, and had to be very clear that my nane was just my name there was no extra bit)

Rudy I really like. With either middle names.

Love Rudy James. I really like Liv Valentine too though Liv does feel too much like a nn.

Avalicious1980 · 08/11/2011 10:40

Ar, I didn't realise it was a boy's name hahah. Thank you for that suggestion. I do like Olivia, but I'm a teacher and I have LOADS of Olivias. My job makes it very hard for me choosing names.

Also for some reason, people seem to think Rudy is a prn star name - but I LOVE it - so does DH! Plus I don't know many Rudys and I wanted something a bit* different.

Not a fan of Rudy, so can't really comment on choice of boy's names, (although I like the name William and a few other traditionals like Oliver and Jacob).
I like Liv Valentine. Talullah is a cute name. Alyssa. Melissa. Matilda. Carmen. Annalise. Tamsin. Not sure any of them go with Liv tbh but just a few that aren't too common (at the moment anyways), and that I think are pretty.
Good luck TTC. Enjoy!

I like Olivia Valentina a lot though. You could go for Livia Valentina (I came across a few Livias whilst living in Italy) which I think is beautiful as personally I think Liv seems incomplete as a full name...

I'm with Jenn1982 re: Rudy but I also love more traditional boys names such as Oliver/William/Benjamin etc..also we referred to a fart as a rudy when we were kids so always makes me chuckle when this name comes up! Think Rudy James flows better..

Liv Valentine - the two V's run together, and Liv is a nickname. But Olivia Valentine sounds good :)

I don't like Rudy because it sounds like rude (and like Montsti, I've heard it used as a slang word). I'd go for Reuben instead.

James and George are both lovely classic names, I like both.

3isamagicnumber · 08/11/2011 12:56

I like Olivia Valentine though agree Olivia is very popular (lovely though!)

Not keen on Rudy but do prefer Rudy James to Rudy George.

rachel234 · 08/11/2011 12:57

I love Valentina. Olivia is ok but quite used already.

I really dislike Rudy or Rudolph, and it has 'rude' in it. How about Valentine for a boy - that is lovely. Reminds me of the lovely Valentine Warner.

Avalicious1980 · 08/11/2011 13:24

Oooh Valentine for a boy - I have never thought of that - our surname is Carter so he would be Valentine Carter - it could sound a little bit soft though so I'd maybe get him boxing lessons. I've always liked William and that's a family name as well. I'm also coming around to Henry, maybe Harry for short - dead popular I know!

I like Livia too. I choose Liv after Liv Tyler - I'm not particularly a fan but I just think it sounds sophisticated.....

I like Liv Valentine - I agree it doesn't run particularly well with the two Vs together, but both names are lovely, and I especially like Valentine as a mn. As a first name, you'd get called Val, but as a mn you get the whole thing, really pretty.

I like Olive, if that appeals to you and you did want a longer version that wasn't Olivia, but I think Liv by itself is just fine.

Rudy reminds me of Message to you Rudy, Specials song, so I like it, and I think Rudy James definitely better than Rudy George. (maybe because it sounds like Reuben James - another good song!)

Rhubarbgarden · 08/11/2011 14:01

I love Livia. And I think it goes beautifully with Valentina. Valentina as a first name would be lovely and unusual except that with Carter as a surname it is a bit too close to Valentine Card!

I'm a big fan of Rudy. Great name.
