Bryony but definatly not Bryony - help

gofrotoes · 03/11/2011 21:50

DH really loves Bryony
I think it is okay (and it would probably grow on me) except all I can think of is the awful Bryony I went to school with.
So it is a big no no

So can any of you think of any names like Bryony (known but not super popular, not too 'old ladyish' but not too little girl and can be shortened so different things)

Other names we like but don't really jump out (or one of us really loves and the other hates) are:

Verity
Thea
Grace
Rae
Ashton
Luna
Suvannah

Thanks

Rowan (because Bryony sounds sort of woody to me). On the same basis, Sylvia.

BibiBelle · 03/11/2011 23:24

Blythe or Brooke
I knew a girl called Beula which was pretty too. Not 100% about my spelling but it's pn b-you-la

BibiBelle · 03/11/2011 23:26

Beth
Bethan
Beatrice

I can't get past B apparently Grin

SlinkingOutsideInSocks · 04/11/2011 05:15

I love the name Blythe, I think it's so petty.

What about an alternative spelling of Bryony, such as Briony (which is how it's spelt in Atonement, so it's not 'alternative' as in yoonee'q Grin ).

Thumbwitch · 04/11/2011 05:23

Bibi, I think Beulah usually has an 'h' on the end but I doubt it matters.

Bettany is a more unusual version of Bethany

I know exactly what you mean about not wanting to name your child the same as an obnoxious person from school - I have real loathing of some names because of their personal association and can't see them objectively at all.

joanofarchitrave · 04/11/2011 05:37

Ivy
Rhiannon

BibiBelle · 04/11/2011 18:49

see it even Hmm[stupid typing]

gofrotoes · 04/11/2011 18:50

Beulah just reminds me of a church.

Thank you so much.

DH is now definatly backing
Leah and Claudia

I really like Nina and Felicity and Eleni (on the same lines as Elunia which someone suggested). I like Maya but as Maia (to make it look more greek)

We both sort of like (but not in love with) Bethany/Bettany and Harriet

Oh I really like Anatasia but it falls into DHs 'no long greek names' no rule :(

Claudia, Leah and Nina are all nice. Well known but not overused. What about (thinking back to Bryony):
