Hello,

I am driving myself and my husband round the bend as I absolutely love, as do lots of our family members, the name Tomas. Our surname, however, is Cruz. Do you think it is cheesy/silly as it relates to the actor, Tom Cruise. I absolutely love it but my DH is really not keen. We can't agree on any other names for our little boy who was born two days ago. Help please! xx

Well I went to school with 2 Tom Jones' and a David Davies.
So no I don't think it is sily or cheesy

I do think "Tom Cruise", yes. Could you use Tomas as a middle name? What other names do you like?

mopsyflopsy · 01/11/2011 21:21

He will probably be called Tom, so you've got to be happy with Tom Cruz. Personally I find it too close to Tom Cruise, sorry. What other names are you considering?

lola4lee · 02/11/2011 13:05

I would definately opt for it as a middle name and not a first! x

I don't see Cruz as that similar to Cruise. Is it said the same? I wouldn't worry about it anyway if you really like the namex

Tom Cruz sounds too similar to Tom Cruise imo. I'd choose another name.

In addition, Tom/Thomas is very widely used already so he may well have to share his name with others in his class. This may or may not bother you or him, but I thought I'd point it out.

Lovely name but personally I wouldn't do it..middle name fine, first name not so great...I knew a Michael Jackson and felt really sorry for him although his first name and surname were completely normal when not put together people always referenced MJ...

Tomás Cruz? If you live the UK then people will misspell as Tom Cruise but if you like it then he'll live with it!

I agree that a hispanic surname needs a complementary first name, Colin Cruz would sound weird.

Congratulations on the birth of your son.

Tomas is a gorgeous name but I think with Cruz, it does sound a bit silly tbh.
