We already have a 15 yr old DS called James Iorwerth known as Blue - to everyone, he introduces himself as such, teachers call him Blue, friends family everyone, he doesn't use James at all.
Anyway When I picked his name I was 16 and very conscience about him not getting a 'certain type of name' with me being 16.
Me and DP have finally got around to having another DC (he adopted DS) but stuck for names - truely.

I like the classicness of James, The welshness of Iorwerth (after my dad - also like the fact he is named after someone) But also like the fact he has a more unusual nickname that is a bit funky.
So think we kind of need a name that fits all of that.

And we both have major brain freeze - so any help would be appreciated.

Luke Dylan
Nathaniel Owen
Tristan Huw
Edward Reece
Samuel Alwyn

itsbeentoolong · 01/11/2011 11:42

Iorwerth is taken to be the welsh equivalent to Edward so that is out.
Reece would have to be Rhys and I know so many already.
Dylan I love but would bug me that people here would say Dillan not Dulan.
Luke, Nathaniel I really Like (Nate, I like hmmm)
Owen is alright
Tristan is a bit too....
Samuel and Alwyn I don't like. Huw is alright.

Thanks - keep them coming

Iolo? Ianto?

itsbeentoolong · 01/11/2011 11:48

Ianto and Iolo I like but Iolo is a diminutive of iorwerth so would that be too much?

I like Nathaniel with the nn newt instead of nate.

how about

Bryn, Gwynn?

Or Dafydd Nathaniel?

BlueChampagne · 01/11/2011 14:05

Hywel as your Welsh component?

talkingnonsense · 01/11/2011 15:32

Alexander as a fn goes well with james. Also Thomas, Anthony, or Michael. I don't know many other welsh names, maybe Evan? Or aled? And then a funky nickname- but you might need to meet him first and let it grow organically ( how did James end up as blue?£

pranma · 01/11/2011 15:37

Look at the Welsh for various colours and choose one with something like John or David as a middle name then use the colour as nn :)

itsbeentoolong · 01/11/2011 15:46

talking when he was born people kept giving me blue stuff and then someone made a comment about it not being a usual name of a teenage mum to give her DC - so I said should i have called him blue? and it stuck.

I like that idea Pranma lets see:

Porffor - Purple
gwrm - Brown - I only even knew it as brown though
Melyn - Yellow
Gwyrdd - Green
Glas - Blue
Gwyn - White
Du - Black
Llwyd - Grey
Coch - Red
Pinc - Pink
Oren - orange

Bryn and Dafydd are nice as is Evan
Alexander is alright I really like Alex though. Don't like michael but do like Anthony and Thomas

I like Gwyn it's lovely but I wouldn't go for a colour nickname- too matchy! Let the nickname arrive with him x

msfallaway · 01/11/2011 19:51

I think as DS1 nn just appeared you should do same this time around.

Anthony Bryn
Andrew Rhys
Thomas Huw
Jude Tomos
Nathan Dafydd
Jonathan Evan
Daniel Llywelyn
Matthew Aneurin
Richard Cai
Zachary Wyn

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 01/11/2011 19:55

We've got Evan, Aled, Wyn And Rhys in the names of our 2 ds's.

All lovely and the English side of the family can manage themeasily!!

msfallaway · 01/11/2011 20:07

Just realised you said DC2 so does that mean you need a girls name as well?
If so:

Elizabeth
Anna
Susannah
Charotte
Catherine
Helena
Rachel
Leah
Mary
Harriet
Rebecca
Olivia

then mn could be
Manon
Lowri
bethan
Rhiannon/ Rhian
Betrys
Morgan
Megan
Meredith
Nerys
Sian
Caron
Ceri
Catrin/Cadi
Elen/Elin
Elunded

Louplet · 01/11/2011 20:19

I like Thomas Iestyn and would leave the nickname to emerge on its own as Blue did

baskingseals · 01/11/2011 20:28

i think that Alexandra is a great name or for a boy Alexander
