Nicholas - is it due a comeback?

What do you think of the name Nicholas (although might use the spelling Nicolas ). Me and DP really like it but were wondering whether it is a) very popular or b) may be making a comeback? Our eldest DS has a pretty uncommon name but with a popular nn (he is Leopold nn Leo) so we aren't too fussed about popularity, more the opposite actually and don't want a name associated with the older generation. So what do you think? We also love the nn Nico for it as well and most probably the mn Thibault (DP is french).

my ds1 whos 21 is called nicholas ,but he gets called nick now

Like the name and only know 2 people called it - one is 33 years old and one is 6 months!

DS (2.7) is a Nicholas, known as Nicky. It's a great name-not too common, but not too weird, classless, ageless, works in lots of languages. Go for it!

I like it - would have thought it reasonably popular as it's a timeless classic IMO but then again you actually don't hear it that often on the really young children. Good choice.

Goregous, was on our shortlist right up until we chose the name we eventually did.

My DP's middle name is Nicholas and goes by Nick, so I think its a lovely name! :)

Dd is 14 and there are 3 Nicholases in her year. One is known by his full name, one is Nick and one is Nico.
The only other one I know is 2.

I really like it, especially as it has lots of possibilities with shortening it or not.

I love it - would have been the name of DD1 had she been a boy. I think it will come back but not for a while so agree you'd be ahead of the curve.

It is a name that travels well, which is always an advantage. Many languages have a form of Nicholas.

Not such a fan of Nicholas but love Nico and wonder why I didnt call ds2 that.
But agree its a good name in lots of languages altho the little Nicholas in ds2's kindergarten pronounces it neeklass.
