What would you call Baby Boy Mills?

We have no idea of what to call this small chap when he arrives (fingers crossed) next week! Our surname is Mills. Which means the likes of William, Finley etc are out, due to all the I's and L's.

We'd like a name that isn't too popular and goes with Elizabeth (9) Honor (6).
Middle name will be Hugh.

5 years (IVF) to get here and a lot of heartbreak and upset. So we haven't wanted to jinx it.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Ben.

Hope all goes well!

How about Maximillian, Frederick, Edmond, Rupert, Benedict, Dominic?

scarevola · 30/10/2011 09:28

Scrub the Maximillian - I must have had your surname on the brain! Perhaps Maxim?

Hugh (or Hugo) - lovely name - would you consider it as the first name?

expectingnumber2 · 30/10/2011 09:28

Hmm that is a tough one! I think with such a short middle name and surname a longer first name would be best. So something like Alexander, Christopher or Barnaby?

Congratulations as well!

mrmills · 30/10/2011 10:48

Thank you for your comments and wishes. The girls are very excited.

I should of said, I'm one of four boys, hence why it's so tough..2 of my brothers names have been mentioned and the boy!!!

I do like Alexander - maybe Xander or Zander for a nn.

Hugh is my BIL, DW feels Honor and Hugh would be too much.

Finley Hugh Mills works really really well. I'd call off the search there to be honest.

DessieLou · 30/10/2011 11:27

Alexander is lovely! And goes nicely with your girls names. Congratulations!
I'll have a think.....

DessieLou · 30/10/2011 11:31

How about Xavier, Isaac, Rupert, Lucas, Zachary, Jeremiah?

Montsti · 30/10/2011 11:34

Nicholas
Sebastian
Benjamin
George
Henry

Congratulations!

Montsti · 30/10/2011 11:35

Sorry just saw your name was Ben - though you could name him after yourself!

collegedropout · 30/10/2011 11:36

I agree that a longer name would be better, how about something like Nathaniel, Nicholas, Lawrence, Sebastian or Toby/Tobias?

Congratulations and hope all goes well with the arrival of your little boy!

bucaneve · 30/10/2011 11:42

I know a Josh with that surname.

Alternatively, I like Thomas (Tom), James and Alexander (Alex)

mrmills · 30/10/2011 12:14

We are liking Xavier, Rupert, Toby and George. Thank you.

We really like Lawrence but not the nn's. Which is a shame.

The girls have just suggested Arthur?

I'm named after my father, and he's named after his father and on and on. Whist we love family names I think another Benjamin might be a bit too much. My brothers are Thom, Eddie and Chris and between them..they have Sebastian, James and Henry!

Do you see our problem!!

Jeremiah popped into my head for some reason... Confused

Gornygoo · 30/10/2011 12:19

George works really well
Congratulations on your little boy

Montsti · 30/10/2011 12:24

Wow I thought I had an issue with family names ha ha! Think Arthur would also work well. Of the ones you like I prefer Xavier, George and Arthur. Xavier being the most unusual as George and to an extent Arthur are (becoming) pretty popular. I think they all go very well with your daughters names..

MuddlingThroughItAll · 30/10/2011 12:24

We're thinking of using Jeremiah for DS5 but just can't choose between that and our two other favourites! Arthur is lovely as are Toby and Rupert.

Congratulations!

Montsti · 30/10/2011 12:31

Montgomery (Monty)
Alfred
Felix
Albert

How about using your name as a middle name therefore not completely breaking with tradition? Rupert Benjamin Hugh Mills gets my vote! Arthur is a lovely name too though.

MamaLazarou · 30/10/2011 12:57

Marshall, Mason or Marlon.

Fixture · 30/10/2011 18:50

Richard
Jonathan
Gregory

mrmills · 30/10/2011 18:58

We are liking Rupert Benjamin Hugh a lot, thank you Dessie

We're not really keen on it being M.M (no idea why)...Monty Mills, Max Mills etc etc. Don't like Jeremiah, nothing wrong with it but just not our cup of tea. But it made us think of Jeremy which we do quite like.

So far I think we have Xavier (Alexander) Rupert, Toby, George. Also thinking about Nicolas?

OP posts:
collegedropout · 30/10/2011 19:02

Nicolas is what we are thinking of calling DC3 if they are a DS. I think it's lovely, much prefer that spelling as well (DH is french). Also the nns are great - Nico, Nic or Nicky

DessieLou · 31/10/2011 10:43

Glad you like it, Mr Mills! Our surname starts will M too so I agree with avoiding M names...it just doesn't sound right does it? I like Nicolas but it would get shortened to Nick so depends if you like that.
Let us know what you decide and good luck with the imminent birth! Grin

SaffronCake · 31/10/2011 14:02

Alexander and George would fit into your wider family well, but there's something to be said for being a little more original too, Xavier and Rupert are fantastic. Toby Mills almost sounds like a phrase to me but I can't quite put my finger on what.

Xavier Hugh Benjamin Mills has a lovely 3,1,3,1 syllable lilt, almost songlike.
