I can't use Daphne can I?

DP has suggested Daphne for a girl. I love it but DS1 is Freddie. Too many people have seen Scooby Doo haven't they?

Would we be able to get away with having Freddie and Daphne?

Really love Daphne and I wouldn't have made the Scooby Doo connection, but that's not to say others won't.

Psammead · 25/10/2011 08:35

It wouldn't have occured to me.

It's a lovely name!

scarlettlips · 25/10/2011 09:03

I also didn't make the connection...

Go for it! Smile

LaFilleSurLePont · 25/10/2011 11:18

I don't think many people would make the connection. It's an incredibly ugly name imho, and that would put me off using it.

largeginandtonic · 25/10/2011 11:22

Cute name. We would know the Scooby connection but tbh that is because mine are Scooby mad.

Still a cool name.

Kayzr · 25/10/2011 11:44

LG&T mine are also scooby mad. Which is probably why it's such a problem for me.

Bah - you're never going to get a name that's not been used in some or other TV show, film or book. Daphne is a lovely name.

largeginandtonic · 25/10/2011 15:12

The boys would LOVE it though wouln't they Kay Grin

Keep it on the list. It goes well with both their names too.

BibiBelle · 25/10/2011 15:35

I agree with LG&T with D in the middle you're never going to be saying Freedie & Daphne, you can always break it up with DS2's name

Congrats btw (dizzy x)

chipmonkey · 25/10/2011 16:16

So long as your ds2 isn't Shaggy.......

LeoTheLateBloomer · 25/10/2011 16:18

I didn't think of Scooby Doo but I did think of Neighbours and Des Grin

Kayzr · 25/10/2011 16:20

Oooh Bibi I've been looking about for you since I've come back to MN.

I would love a girl but these girls names are so much harder!

largeginandtonic · 25/10/2011 16:22

Oh yes! Daphne who gave birth with her tights on! Arf.

I have 2 of the tweenies. Drew the line at a 3rd but loved the name Milo!

Daphne is a great name.

meditrina · 25/10/2011 16:23

I wouldn't have made the connexion.

But that's because I think of Daphne as the female counterpart of a Rupert in the Army (ie slightly clueless young officer).

wigglesrock · 25/10/2011 16:41

I would have thought so, but just asked my husband and he said "Oh God, no way" Grin, my 6 year old just laughed and said like Scooby Doo? What about Delphine?

Kayzr · 25/10/2011 16:48

No Delphine makes me think of the donkey in Peppa Pig. I don't want to name her after a donkey.

Kayz I mainly stick to my Antenatal thread. I've only recently started dipping my toes in the Baby Names threads again Grin

Girls names are soooooooooooooooo easy, the only difficulty is the choice!

I think Delphine is beautiful and much less association attached than Scooby Doo, The Broons, Neighbours & the daft lass in Frasier GrinWink

wigglesrock · 25/10/2011 17:19

Kayzr I named dd2 after a cartoon pig Grin, but according to most on MN baby names its a shockingly unoriginal name anyway Grin.

nickelbabe · 25/10/2011 17:20

I didn't make the connection till you pointed it out.

If yo ulike the name use it!

HerdOfTinyElephants · 25/10/2011 17:31

The connection does occur to me straight away, but it's still a lovely name and I think could well be on its way back.

BibiBelle · 25/10/2011 20:16

A friend of mine from school was called Dolina but known as either Dolly or Donna - too twee?

Miette · 25/10/2011 20:22

I prefer Velma

chipmonkey · 25/10/2011 23:27

Your boys are gorgeous, by the way!

largeginandtonic · 26/10/2011 09:11

Oh Dolly! Call her Dolly. I love it. I had Dulcie on the list for dd2, she would have been nn Dolly.

Aphra good too.

Incase it is twins you need a Herbert and Bunty. No exceptions. Ok?
